NFL Week 3: Cowboys vs. Texans Picks & Predictions

In one of the best matchups on the NFL Week 3 schedule, the Dallas Cowboys will take on the Houston Texans in hopes of earning their first win. Let’s take a look at the matchup and hand out a free pick.
Before making a prediction on this game, we first need to take a look at the odds, where oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made the Texans a 3-point home favorite over the Cowboys. The over/under total for this game has been set at 47.5 points.
Based on this week’s betting percentages, it looks like the public would pick the Texans in this matchup. And why wouldn’t they? Houston is 2-0 on the year with big wins against Indianapolis and on the road against Washington, while Dallas is 0-2 with brutal efforts against those same Redskins and the Chicago Bears.
But the Texans are due for a letdown. They’re coming off an emotion win over the Colts and a come-from-behind victory against the Redskins. Now they face a Cowboys team that has struggled in back-to-back losses and the Texans get to face them at home. A pick of Houston looks to easy here.
Keep in mind that the Texans just lost starting left tackle Duane Brown to a suspension. DeMarcus Ware could have a field day going up against an undermanned Houston offensive line and completely turn this game on its head. Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson were outstanding in the win last week against the Redskins, but my pick is the Cowboys.
Pick & Prediction:
The Cowboys are too good to start the season 0-3 and while the Texans are legitimate playoff contenders, they weren’t sharp defensively last week and their offense is due to stall out. Last year the Saints started the season by scoring 45 and 48 points. In their next two games, they saw a drop off in scoring despite playing the lowly Bills in Week 3 (they still scored 27 points but again, offense tend to slow down at some point). The Cowboys are going to be motivated to prove themselves against their in-state rival, which is why my prediction is for them to win outright.
