Week 8 Odds & Spreads: Dolphins at Jets Pick & Trends
The New York Jets are looking to avenge their loss to the Miami Dolphins a few weeks ago when the two teams square off for the second and final time in 2009.
The Dolphins lost a heartbreaker last week to the Saints, 46-34 after building a 24-3 first half lead. Chad Henne threw for 211 yards, but was intercepted twice as Miami failed to cover as 6.5-point underdogs. Ricky Williams rushed for 80 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries in the loss.
The Jets got back on track last week with a 36-0 win as 6-point favorites in Oakland. Rookie Shonn Greene rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries for the Jets, while Thomas Jones racked up 121 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries in the win.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Jets 3.5-point favorites over the Dolphins in Week 8. The over/under total for this game has been set at 40.5 points.
Although both teams combined to score 58 points in their last meeting, we actually really like the under in this matchup. Both teams will be looking to keep the ball on the ground, which means the clock will constantly be running. Divisional games are also usually tight, so we expect both defenses to put forth their best efforts on Sunday.
As far as the side is concerned, we like the Dolphins to once again cover. Miami’s defense has had trouble stopping quarterbacks that can stretch the field vertically, but fortunately for the Dolphins Mark Sanchez is not that kind of quarterback. The Dolphins’ run defense has been solid this year and should contain Greene and Jones.
The Jets have an edge playing at home, but we love the hook in this game because we think this will be a 3-point contest either way. We favor Miami to win outright, but make sure to take the 3.5 points because it should be close throughout.
Our NFL Week 8 Free Pick for this matchup is: MIAMI DOLPHINS +3.5 and UNDER 40.5.
