Week 8 Odds We Pick The Winner of 49ers at Colts
Losers of two straight, the San Francisco 49ers hope to get back on the right track when they take on the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium this Sunday.
The 49ers lost 24-21 to the Texans last Sunday as 3-point underdogs. Alex Smith replaced Shaun Hill at halftime and rallied the Niners by throwing for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Vernon Davis caught seven passes for 93 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.
The Colts stayed perfect on the season with their 42-6 win over the Rams as 14.5-point favorites in Week 7. Peyton Manning threw for 235 yards with three touchdowns, while Reggie Wayne hauled in seven passes for 83 yards and a score in the victory.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Colts 13-point favorites over the 49ers in Week 8. The over/under total for this game has been set at 44.5 points.
The 49ers have been exposed for what they are over the past two weeks: Overrated. That doesn’t mean they’re not a good team, it just means that they were hyped up long before they had proven anything. A couple of good outings early in the season got the pundits to jump on their bandwagon a tad early.
Granted, with Smith under center the 49ers should have more firepower offensively. But that doesn’t mean that they’ll suddenly change into the Saints. They’ll still struggle at times picking up first downs, including this Sunday against a solid Indianapolis defense.
San Francisco’s defense has not played well the past two games and now gets the unenviable challenge of having to stop an Indy offense that is firing on all cylinders right now. If the Niners can’t drum up a consistent pass rush, Manning should have success moving the chains through the air.
The only concern we have about the Colts is that Wayne is questionable due to an injury. If he’s ready to go, then Indy should win by more than two touchdowns and get backers a cover. Without him, they may have trouble moving the chains at times, but they would still be a sound play this week.
