John Thompson III is finally gone! First-year coach Patrick Ewing is now in the saddle at his alma-mater, and the MO of the Hoyas remains the same...Take the Underdog in Georgetown's games!
Georgetown was able to spring the underdog outright earlier this week at St. John's, winning 69-66 as the +6 1/2 point dog. While the Hoyas are only 4-4 straight up their last 8 games, they have been able to cover 4 of their last 5 in the underdog role, and the dog in their games has covered in each of their last 5 games. The Hoyas also bring a 4-0 road spread mark into North New Jersey for this matinee with the Pirates of Seton Hall.
Kevin Willard's team is coming off a puzzling 84-64 road loss at Marquette earlier this week in a game that was priced right around a pick'em, as the Pirates dropped to just 2-5 versus the line their last 7 games contested.
Hall big-man Angel Delgado figures to have his hands full against Hoyas big man Jesse Govan, so don't expect the Pirates to have their usual advantage in this paint in the first meeting between the schools this season. Seton Hall is on a 4-game series winning streak, but last year's meetings were decided by just 3 and 2 points with the basket decision taking overtime to decide.
With the Pirates just 1-3 against the spread their last 4 when listed as the home chalk, the points look very valuable with the visiting dog today.
Is Hoya Paranoia back? Today I say yes!

Miami last played last Sunday in their first home game since early December as the Hurricanes defeated (and covered) the Florida State Seminoles.
Clemson just played on Thursday night, and saw their 3 free-throws granted with time expiring fall just short. Gabe DeVoe made a lay-up with 1.3 to go to cut the Clemson deficit to 3, then NC State turned it over on the in-bounds pass and DeVoe was fouled heaving a three-ball at the buzzer. He made the first pair, then missed the potential tying try, and Clemson suffered the loss - just their second against 14 wins for the year.
Obviously, the Tigers setback expended some energy, as did their pair of games prior to Thursday, as Brad Brownell's team needed overtime to beat back Louisville the game before (they did not cover as the home chalk), and against Boston College the game prior, Clemson blew a double-digit lead at Boston College but held on for a 4-point win (again no cover).
You see a theme here?
I know Clemson has yet to lose at home, but I have to believe they are about out of gas in this spot, while Miami comes into this game with a full tank of gas, and series wins in 5 of the last 7 meetings. The Hurricanes have not been an underdog since November 29th when they won outright at Minnesota. I know the 'Canes are not a massive dog, but I also know they are in a better situation schedule-wise than their ACC rivals.
