Pelicans-1½

The NBA Comp play for Sunday is on New Orleans at 3:05 eastern. The Pelicans have home loss revenge on NY and did win by 14 here last season. They are 10-5 vs losing teams while the Knicks are 5-12 vs winning teams and 1-5 in January. From the database we are playing on rested road favorites that won and covered as a home favorite and scored and allowed 110 or more in that win vs a team like NY that comes in off a road dog loss while scoring 100 or more. These road favorites cover over 80% long term. Look for the Pelicans to take this one. RV

My 1* Free Play is on the New York Knicks (3:35 EST).

The Pelicans come in off a 119-113 win at home over the Blazers, but previous to that had dropped four of six.

The Knicks won’t be lacking for motivation tonight after two straight losses, most recently a 118-108 setback in Minnesota on Friday. And if recent history is any precedence, then New York has to be liking its chances for a bounce back today, because when these teams met in late December, it was the Knicks that scored the 105-103 road victory.

New Orleans averages 110.8 PPG and it concedes 110.9. Anthony Davis leads the way with 26.1 points, 10.3 boards and 2.06 blocks per game, while DeMarcus Cousins is right beside him with 25.8 points, 12.5 boards and 5.1 assists per outing.

New York averages 103.7 PPG and it concedes 104.7. Kristaps Porzingis leads the nightly charge with 23.6 points, 6.8 boards and 2.28 blocks per game. Enes Kanter adds 13.5 boards and 10.1 boards.

I’ll point out that the Pelicans are already a poor 6-9 ATS this year after scoring 115 points or more in their previous outing, while the Knicks have excelled in this position all season by going a spectacular 10-2 ATS following a loss by ten points or more.

I think New York is the “hungrier” team. Consider the Knicks in this one.

Good luck…Larry

This is a battle of two of the most prolific offenses in the NFL. The Saints defense looked suspect last week and therefore its hard to believe that the Vikings offense will have any problem scoring points, while Saints offense has looked sharp and should put up plenty of points on Minnesota.

These two teams met back in week one, a 29-19 final.

In fact, the over is 5-0-1 in the Vikings’ last six home games against the Saints.

Over is the play.

First year coach Kevin Keats has NC State playing well, and more importantly, believing!

The Wolfpack hit Charlottesville this Sunday fresh off back-to-back home upset ACC wins over Duke last Saturday, and Clemson on Thursday. Can they pull off a third straight upset over Virginia?

Ehh, that's doubtful, but with the points I think they can get the cover.

The Cavaliers are on a 7-game winning streak, and they have not lost at home this season at 11-0, but Tony Bennett's team is now being asked to cover some big imposts, and they are just 2-2 their last 4 against the spread. The Cavs took a while to put Syracuse in their rear-view mirror earlier this week, failing to cover the number, and I see them struggling to put this upstart 'Pack team away too.

UVa has captured 5 straight in this series, with 4 of those wins coming by double-digits. That simply must change. Not saying State is going to upset Virginia in this spot, but after dismal ACC road showings at both Notre Dame and Clemson, look for Kevin Keats to coax a competitive effort out of his team today. Remember, the road team in the series stands at 16-5 against the spread the past 21 series meetings.

We don't need an outright today, just a cover.

Take the points.

2* NC STATE

Looking for my third straight free winner, after hitting the Timberwolves on Saturday and Nevada on Sunday. Today it'll be the Miami Heat getting it done against the visiting Milwaukee Bucks.

I know everyone continues to be enamored by 6-foot-11 point forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, aka the Greek Freak, but one man does not a team make.

Right LeBron?

Nope, the Bucks can't get anywhere without a supporting cast and an entire team working together. Much like the Heat, arguably one of the hottest teams in the league.

Did you realize that if the playoffs began today, the Heat would host a first-round series? Miami, which has won six straight and eight of 10, has the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, and isn't too far back of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

And what I like about the Heat right now is they're not blowing teams out. You see NBA teams winning by big margins, and they forget about hard work. They tend to think things are too easy. But Miami has had to stay in grind mode, and that's a good thing. Winning close games is good for chemistry.

Look for that team effort today, as Miami rolls past Milwaukee.

4* HEAT
