The Saints have already beaten the Panthers twice in the regular season and while they say “third times a charm,” we simply have a hard time seeing the Panthers matching pace with Drew Brees and company. Carolina averages 22.7 PPG and allows 20.4. QB Cam Newton had a poor overall season with a 22:16 TD:INT ratio. The Panthers won three of four to end the year, but they looked pretty poor in last week’s 22-10 road loss in Atlanta. The Saints average 28 PPG, while allowing 20.4. New Orleans has never had issues scoring, but its improved defensive play is the biggest reason that it now has home field advantage in the Wildcard round. But Brees has significant help on the ground this season as well in Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. Note as well that Carolina is just 1-4 ATS in its last five trips to New Orleans, while the Saints are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game. It’s difficult to beat a team three times in one year, but we think this will be the exception to that “rule.” Consider laying the points on the high-flying SAINTS in this matchup.
