COLLEGE FOOTBALL SELECTIONS

8-Unit Play. Take #330 Central Florida (-7) over Tulsa (Noon, Saturday, Dec. 1)
Note: This is our College Football Game of the Year. I do endorse a play at -7.5 for 7 Units. Buy off the hook if you can.

Central Florida is a bigger, badder, better team than Tulsa and they are going to prove it again this weekend. UCF hammered the Hurricanes by 21 points in their October meeting and are playing even better now then they were then. Since a mid-season loss to South Florida, the Knights have run off six straight wins by an average of 21.8 points. Tulsa is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games and has not been the same explosive team on grass that they have been on turf. This is an incredibly young Tulsa team, with just five senior starters, and other than quarterback Paul Smith there isn?t much that I see that scares me on the Tulsa sideline. These are two of the top offenses in Conference USA but the difference will be that UCF can hit and control the line of scrimmage. They should dominate the time of possession, should keep Smith off the field, and will clearly have the home crowd behind them as they avenge a loss to the Hurricanes from two years ago.

4.5-Unit Play. Take Central Michigan (-3) over Miami, OH (11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1)
The defending MAC champions have 14 starters back from the team that hammered Ohio 31-10 last year in this very game. Central Michigan got off to a slow start this season due in part to injuries and a tricky schedule, but over the last month they have been the best team in the MAC. They have won three of their last four games away from home outright and have won six of eight games overall. We will be backing the No. 1 offense in the conference and we will be backing the best player on the field in CMU?s Dan LeFevour. Miami of Ohio has stumbled down the stretch, dropping three of four games and posting a 1-4 ATS mark. Central Michigan is 17-4-3 ATS in their last 24 conference games, 15-3-2 ATS as a favorite, and 7-1 ATS as a favorite of 3.0 to 10.0. The Redhawks do play solid defense and are a scrappy club, but I don?t trust their quarterback not to make a crippling mistake and I don?t think this team can put up enough points if they get behind early. I think the crowd will be on CMU?s side and I think luck will be as well, as the Chippewas make it back-to-back MAC titles.

3-Unit Play. Take Washington (+14) over Hawaii (11:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1)
Hawaii is setup for a letdown here after winning a game against Boise State that they had built up to be the pinnacle of their season. Washington is coming off a tough loss in the Apple Cup, but this is a senior-laden team that is looking to play spoiler against a Hawaii team with stars in its eyes. Hawaii is just 2-6 ATS against the Pac-10 and the Huskies already dominated Boise State this year. I do not think they win this one, but it shouldn?t be decided by double-digits either.

2-Unit Play. Take #335 Oklahoma (-3) over Missouri (8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1)
No. 1 or No. 2 has not been a happy place for teams this year. I know everyone is excited about Missouri righ tnow but I still think that Oklahoma is a bigger, badder team than the Tigers. OU has owned the Tigers over the past two seasons and the key to this play comes down to one thing: is this Missouri team better than the one that got hammered at home by this Sooners team? I say no. In Stoops We Trust, and the Sooners are going to roll in this one.

Ethan Law -- THIS GUY HAS BEEN GOD AWFUL FOR 2 MONTHS STRAIGHT NOW !!!

C MICHIGAN (7-5) at MIAMI OHIO (6-6)

The battle for MAC supremacy with the first conference championship game kicking off at 11:00 a.m. Miami of Ohio (6-6 SU & 5-6 ATS) has played very admirable this season and their 7-5 record is a bit deceiving considering their strength of schedule. Indeed, 4 of their 5 losses came against power conferences (on the road) as they suffered losses to Minnesota, Cincinnati, Colorado and Vanderbilt. The normally very dangerous offensive unit of Miami of Ohio has had a very up and down year as they suffered many injuries especially in their backfield where they are down to their fourth and fifth-string tailbacks (Cory Jones and Thomas Merriweather) as their stud Austin Sykes has an ankle injury. However, Miami’s defense is where their bread and butter is as they are allowing just 18 points per game. Meanwhile, similar to Miami (Ohio) the Central Michigan Chippewas (7-5 SU & 7-4 ATS) have also had an up and down year, but they have one of the most potent offenses in the nation. The offense is led by sophomore quarterback LeFevour who comes into this contest with 22 touchdowns. Indeed, this is a well balanced offense that is averaging an unbelievable 43 points, 221 yards rushing and 290 yards passing per game in MAC play! However, unlike their counterpart, the Chippewas defense has some problems as they are allowing opposing offenses to average 38 points per game against them on the season. Despite those rather gaudy numbers, it should be noted that those “on paper” stats are a bit misleading as CM did have to play some of the most powerful offenses in the country as Kansas put up 52, Purdue 45 and Clemson put up 70 as they were coming off a loss on their home coming day.

The line in this contest opened at Central Michigan -3.5 and has since been bet down to 3 despite a 64% public backing according to most betting tracking sites. Those who follow me know that I usually go against the public, but this particular situation really favors Central Michigan. I assume this line is rather “small” because Central Michigan faltered down the stretch as they barely defeated Western Michigan land lost to a lowly Eastern Michigan team at home. CM also needed to rally from a double digit deficit to beat Akron this past weekend (however they did have a 639-323 yard edge) However, those results are not all that surprising when you consider that the Chippewas already had the MAC West title locked up weeks ago, thus guaranteeing themselves for a spot in this game. In contrast, Miami (Ohio) needed to rally late in their season as they went an incredible 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games. Despite, the slide in the last few weeks of the season, there really is nothing to justify this small line in my opinion. Granted, Miami (Ohio) has the better defense on the field by about 13 points and 92 yards, Miami’s defense did have the benefit of playing some of the weaker offenses teams in the country. As such, despite the “on paper” defensive fundamental match-up advantage, the theory of this selection is that Miami (Ohio) simply does not have the firepower to compete with the CM offense. If the Chippewas get ahead early this game will be over before it started because Miami’s offense is not capable of coming back from a big deficit. For all their defensive flaws, Miami’s quarterback has thrown five interceptions in his last two games and he will be unable to exploit the defensive weaknesses of the CMU secondary. From a technical standpoint Central Michigan is on an impressive 15-2 ATS run against MAC opposition. CMU is also 6-1 SU & ATS in the MAC this season. In contrast, Miami is a poor 2-5 SU & 2-4 ATS away from home this season. Central won the MAC championship last season when they easily defeated Ohio 31-10 last season and should be in for an easy win again this season. Lay the small number as Central rolls!

Verdict: Cent Michigan 38, Miami Oh 24
PLAY 1* UNIT ON CENTRAL MICHIGAN -3

OKLAHOMA (10-2) at MISSOURI (11-1)

Man oh man is this going to be a great game! I have received some criticism about many of my selections not being “televised” games but that is not the reason for this selection. Luckily, this is also one of the best value plays on the board this season. Most people did a second take when they saw this line came out as the No. 1 team in the nation was instill as an underdog again the ninth ranked opponent in Oklahoma. Oklahoma (10-2 SU & 6-6 ATS) comes into this contest with a very skilled and dangerous offense led by quarterback Sam Bradford (32 touchdowns, just 7 interceptions). Indeed, the Oklahoma offense averages a whopping 43 points per game on 193 yards rushing and 263 passing per game. The Sooner defense is equally as imposing as they are allowing just 18 points and just 91 yards rushing per contest. Meanwhile, their opponent the Missouri Tigers (11-1 SU & 10-1 ATS) come into this contest as the number 1 ranked team in the nation. Like Oklahoma, their offense is incredible averaging 42 points, 170 yards rushing and 336 yards passing per game. However, unlike Oklahoma, their defense can be exploited as they are actually 5 points and 57 yards worse the Sooners.

Going to back to the line in this contest, my theory is that the lines makers are trying to entice the public to take the No. 1 ranked underdog. We know from a motivation standpoint, Missouri has just about everything to lose. If they win this game, they would play for the national title. However, what Missouri doesn’t have is the experience. Indeed, Oklahoma has been here before and won last seasons Big 12 title game (a 21-7 win over Nebraska). Missouri, must also somehow try to find a way to erase the fact that their loan loss of their season came on October 13 when Oklahoma won 41-31 at home. Now traditionally, some will say that Missouri has the benefit since this classified as a “same season” revenge contest, however, I still cannot get off the fact that as good as Missouri has been, Oklahoma simply has more talented players virtually across the board and they have the experience to step up in a big setting. This will be Missouri’s first appearance in the Big 12 Championship game, while Oklahoma has been in this spot 6 times over the past nine seasons. Historically, the Tigers have lost 18 of the last 20 games in this series and I see no reason for that to change tonight. Lay the small number with the better defense and the more talented team.

Verdict: Oklahoma 31, Missouri 21
PLAY 1* UNIT ON OKLAHOMA -3
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
SATURDAY SYNDICATE SELECTIONS: LSU -7
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Syndicate play: After some considerable discussion the group decided to place a 35 dime wager on LSU -7.

Ethan’s thoughts: All three advisors flagged LSU early in the week including myself. When we made this selection we were aware that LSU QB Flynn was only probable and not going to play, as he was severely limited in practice. However, his replacement, Ryan Perrilloux is very capable and the group believes that they LSU is potentially more talented with Perrilloux under center. Nevertheless, the big difference in this contest will be the basic match-up advantage when LSU has the ball and decides to run the football. LSU (averages 4.9 rushing yards per carry) should be able to move the ball at will against a Tennessee rush defense that gives up well over 4 yards per carry. Look for LSU to control the game and clock with their powerful rushing attack and they should be able to name their score against an out-matched Tennessee team.

SYNIDCATE PLAY: LSU -7
