Temple at Penn State Betting Preview
A strong start to the 2009 season should continue on Saturday for No. 5 Penn State when the Nittany Lions host Temple at Noon ET from Beaver Stadium.
The Nittany Lions haven’t lost to Temple in 68 years and Temple seems to be over-matched again this season. Penn State has outscored its opponents 59-14 in its two victories. Last weekend, Penn State beat Syracuse 28-7. Penn State was holding a shutout late into the game, but a fourth quarter turnover led to the lone points for the Orange. Daryll Clark didn’t dominate the game, but still threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing. Graham Zug caught six passes for 79 yards in the win, but Penn State only rushed for 78 yards as a team. Defensively, Penn State continued its impressive play by holding Syracuse to 200 yards as an offense. The Orange threw two interceptions and Penn State had two sacks.
Temple was off last weekend but opened the season with a disappointing 27-24 loss to Villanova. The Owls had a 10-point lead in the final quarter, but a late interception thrown by Vaughn Charlton led to a 32-yard field goal with no time left to give Villanova the win. Charlton threw for 317 yards on 19-of-28 passing, but had three interceptions. The Owls had over 450 yards of offense but turned the ball over five times in the loss. Temple coach Al Golden has just a 10-27 record in the middle of his fourth season with the Owls, and Golden needs some marquee wins this year to keep his job.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BetOnline have made Penn State 29.5-point home favorites over Temple on Saturday afternoon. The over/under total for this game has been established at 45.5.
