200♦ New York Jets

Bitter AFC rivals I like the Jets plus the points tonight. I mean throwing out the first meeting between these two team in week one it has been the Jets who have improved the most as New York has won 5 of their last 6 game. Mix the Jets improvement with the fact that the road team has covered the last 6 meetings in the regular season and New York is looking good tonight. Well thanks to the Jets offense lead by Favre who is starting up understand the playbook and a defense that has been stopping the run by holding four teams to under 50 yards this year it is New England with their less then stellar offense and poor secondary who is in trouble tonight. Bottom line, given how well the Jets have improved on both sides of the ball and only getting better I see Mangini getting the best of Belichick and the Patriots. Take the Jets plus the points.

All New York!

100♦ Virginia Tech Hokies

Also in bonus action I like the Hokies also plus the points tonight. I mean now that Virginia Tech has found a running game with Evans and Taylor healthy the Hokies look to return to their dominate self’s. You see for Virginia Tech they own the highway going 17-5 ATS and also this series winning and covering the last 2 games. Meanwhile, for Miami while playing a lot of freshman this year will benefit the Hurricanes in the years to fallow I look for their inexperience to cost them a win tonight. So keeping their ACC title hopes alive I say take the Hokies plus the points as they win outright on the road.

GameBreaker

NY Jets at New England
Play Under 42

Patriots D has been playing well lately, giving up 18 pts or less in 4 straight and 3.5 yards/carry in 3 straight. That's important vs the Jets. The Jets have played the run well and the Patriots are still relatively conservative on offense. Weather looks less than ideal and total is above the key number of 41. The Pats have gone gone under 40 in 3 straight and traditionally play lower scoring games at home vs winning teams. Big game for both teams I expect them to be guarding against the big mistakes, especially early. Play Under 42 for a 4* Regular Play

BIG AL

49-16 ATS COLLEGE HOOPS BANK SHOT

At 11 pm, in the quarterfinal round of the 2K Hoops Classic, our selection is on the UCLA Bruins minus the points over Miami-Ohio. Last night, Miami won 70-66 over Weber State, as an 11.5-point favorite, while Ben Howland's Bruins outlasted overmatched Prairie View A&M 82-58, as a 37-point fave. The Bruins did lose several stars to the NBA (Russell Westbrook, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, and Kevin Love), but returned three senior starters (Darren Collison, Alfred Aboya, and Josh Shipp), and also brought in five talented freshmen like Malcolm Lee (12 points last night) and James Keefe (11 points). Even though UCLA won by 24, freshman Jrue Holliday already exemplifies the high standards of his coach, and said, "We could've blown them out by 40 or 50 points if we'd played to the best of our ability. Today wasn't one of our best games." Indeed, UCLA had an uncharacteristic 24 turnovers (just three less than Prairie View), and I'm sure coach Howland will let his team know that sloppy play won't be tolerated. With a semifinal berth at Madison Square Garden in New York on the line, I expect a much more focused effort tonight. And no team is better than a Ben Howland-coached team coming off a bad game, in which it failed to cover the spread. UCLA is 32-11 ATS under Howland in the regular season after failing to cover the spread, and in his last couple seasons at Pitt, his Panthers were 17-5 ATS in this situation (so, 49-16 combined). Howland gets his troops to rebound off poor games, and we'll back UCLA tonight.

100% (17-0 ATS) PERFECT PATS/JETS

At 8:15 pm, on Thursday, our selection is on the New England Patriots minus the points over the NY Jets. Last week, Brett Favre and his Flyboys rolled up 47 points in their 47-3 blowout win over St. Louis, and now seek to follow up that 44-point win with a victory over Bill Belichick's Patriots. The problem for the Jets, of course, is that New England is just a little bit better than St. Louis. And, lately, teams off big wins of 23+ points are not following up these games with good efforts. Going back to December 2005, unrested NFL road teams are an awful 0-17 ATS in the regular season if they're NOT an underdog of 6+ points. Finally, New England is at its best in this price range, (38-7 SU and 32-11-2 ATS their last 45 when priced from PK to -6.5 points). In these competitively priced games, coaching is a huge asset, and Belichick's the best in the business. Take the Patriots.

Brian Hansen

Buffalo at Akron
Play: Buffalo

With hopes of a Mid-American Conference championship still flickering, Buffalo travels to Akron in what is being called one of the Bulls' biggest regular season games in school history. A victory would make Buffalo bowl eligible for the first time since the program became a Division I-A program in 1999. A berth to the International Bowl could be on the horizon. The biggest factor in this game is that Buffalo is already a perfect 4-0 ATS when playing the roll of underdog and 2-0 ATS off a win against a conference rival. And it’s also interesting to note that Akron is 0-1 ATS this year when the line is +3 to –3. My Thursday Night Game of the Year is on BUFFALO U.!
