TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -Tom Amstutz will resign after the season as the football coach of Toledo, which is heading for a third straight losing year.
Toledo is 2-6, although one of its victories came against Michigan. The Rockets have lost two in a row since beating the Wolverines.
Amstutz is 57-38 in eight years at Toledo. He's taken the Rockets to four bowl games and two Mid-American Conference championships. He said at a news conference Monday he will work in the university's alumni office.
''I'm proud of the body of work I've had,'' he said.
Athletic director Mike O'Brien did not specify why Amstutz is resigning, saying it was a mutual agreement. Amstutz had one more year left on his contract through 2009, but O'Brien had not offered him an extension.
