The Patriots received a devastating blow in their Week 1 win when they lost Tom Brady for the season. Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have dropped New England’s odds to win the 2009 Super Bowl from 3/1 to 12/1.
Tom Brady suffered the season-ending knee injury in the first half of the New England Patriots’ 17-10 win over the Chiefs when his knee bent backwards during a passing play. Reports have surfaced that Brady has torn both his MCL and ACL and that New England has played the star quarterback on injured reserve.
Without Brady, the Patriots will start inexperienced youngster Matt Cassel at quarterback. Without their multiple Super Bowl-winner under center, there are major doubts that New England can win another title this season. But not too long ago, Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe following an injury and he won a Super Bowl. Did the Pats find another gem in Cassel?
With Randy Moss and Wes Welker at receiver and a stout defense, Cassel has plenty of help to succeed. He also has a solid offensive line to protect him, so don’t count the Patriots out this year. In fact, the odds may never be better at 12/1 and could prove to be a huge value play.
