200♦ Cleveland Cavaliers

Already clearly cap room for James in 2010 the fans of New York we get sneak preview of the best player in the league as the Cavaliers bury the Knicks tonight. The same Cleveland team that covered their last trip to MSG by 9’ points as LeBron went off for 50 points. Well thanks to Cleveland rolling into tonight’s game red hot by winning 9 of their last 10 games while covering 4 of their last 5 I look for similar results for Cleveland. After all given the fact that New York is one of the worst defensive teams in the league and one that was worsened by a pair of cap trades last week the Knicks will be no match up Cleveland tonight. Bottom line, I see this match up as the biggest blowout of the night as Cleveland behind James will crush New York. Take the Cavaliers minus the points.

100♦ Ball State Cardinals

Playing at home and doing so in style tonight I like the Cardinals minus the points. I mean sure tonight’s number might look high at first glance, but the Cardinals have been asked all year to cover big numbers and they have done a great job going 8-2 ATS this season thanks to outscoring their opponents by a whooping 21 ppg. Even better it’s the Cardinal defense that has been equally as solid by only allowing 16 ppg. Well both of those numbers are better then what Western Michigan has done this year and they will continue tonight as Ball State wraps up a regular season a big winner at home. With out a Western Michigan is good enough to keep things close tonight, but in the end with Ball State playing at home and stay undefeated I look for a two touchdown win for the Cardinals tonight. All Ball State minus the points!

Dr Bob

3 Star Selection
Ball State (+6 ½) over WISCONSIN MILWAUKEE

Ball State was a team in transition last season under a new coach and with little depth, but year 2 of the Billy Taylor era should be much better, as Taylor has more talent on hand and players that are buying into his system. The Cardinals not only return last year’s top scorer and rebounder in Anthony Newell, but they’ve uncovered a star in freshman forward Jarrod Jones, who has averaged 18.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 61% from the floor in his first 3 games. The addition of Jones helps on both sides of the floor and Ball State’s defensive effort is much better this season (39.7% allowed) after allowing 45% shooting last season. Wisconsin-Milwaukee is about as good this year as they were in the second half of last season (after they improved by kicking a couple of bad seeds off the team), but my ratings only favor Milwaukee by 5 ½ points and using this year’s games only would favor the Panthers by only 3 points. Ball State applies to a very good 92-27-1 ATS early season indicator and I’ll take Ball State in a 3-Star Best Bet at +5 points or more and for 2-Stars at +4 ½ or +4 points.3-Stars at +5 or more, 2-Stars at +4 1/2 or +4.

3 Star Selection
Long Beach State (+1 ½) over IDAHO STATE

Both of these teams were expected to be better this season after very poor showings last season, but Long Beach has played well beyond expectations so far and look like a legitimately good team based on early returns. The 49ers competed well in spread covering road losses against good teams BYU and Wisconsin, losing those games by an average of just 8.5 points at an average point spread of +21 points, and then beat Weber State by 4 points at home. That win over Weber State was actually their worst game of the season so far, but their game rating in that game is still better than any game Idaho State has played this season. Long Beach is playing very well on the defensive side of the floor after compensating for the strength of the opposing offenses they’ve faced and Idaho State is a bad offensive team (38.6% FG) that doesn’t appear to be any better than last year’s poor shooting team (43.2% FG) despite returning 4 starters. My pre-season ratings make this game a pick, but using this year’s games only would favor Long Beach by 4 ½ points and the 49ers apply to a very good 103-40 ATS early season indicator. I’ll take Long Beach State in a 3-Star Best Bet at -1 or better and for 2-Stars at -1 ½ or -2 points.3-Stars at -1 or better, 2-Stars at -1 1/2 or -2 points.
