The rivalry of West Virginia takes place on Friday as the No. 23 Mountaineers head to Marshall to take on the Thundering Herd at 7PM ET.
Game Preview:
West Virginia is 9-0 against Marshall in this rivalry. The Thundering Herd has the Mountaineers down 7-3 at halftime of last year’s game before WVU rallied to win 24-7. The Mountaineers have won this rivalry by an average of 33 points per-game.
West Virginia opened the season with a 31-0 win over Costal Carolina. The Mountaineers out-gained their opponent 400-188. Geno Smith led the team with 216 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Marshall’s head coach Doc Holliday is an alum of West Virginia, as he played linebacker from 1976-78 and also coached on the staff for the last two seasons. Marshall opened the year with a 45-7 loss to No. 2 Ohio State. Marshall was held to 199 yards of offense and turned the ball over three times while giving up 529 yards of offense to the Buckeyes.
