Most of the cappers point to the Denver Broncos as being the winner. John Ryan's scientific analysis even points to Denver losing by less than 6.5 points. Dunkel has the Broncos winning the game by 2.5 points. Look at this:

Game 107-108: NY Giants at Denver
Dunkel Ratings: NY Giants 131.398; Denver 134.088
Dunkel Line: Denver by 2 1/2; 45
Vegas Line: NY Giants by 6 1/2; 42
Dunkel Pick: Denver (+6 1/2); Over

WHY WOULD VEGAS SCREW UP LIKE THIS? COULD IT BE INTENTIONAL SO THEY DO NOT LOSE MONEY ON THIS GAME? ???

As of Thursday's games, I picked: Green Bay, Dallas and Denver.

Line makers do not set traps.
I have been in hundreds of meetings where lines were made and never heard the word 'trap' even once; that's just not part of the process.
Vegas, for that matter, as Blade and Michael will tell you, doesn't make lines anymore, except for 1-2 shops.
For the most part, they just copy the opening #'s from off shore.
They do not set lines using what LVSC sends out, they use that as more of a monitor, to follow moves.
The casinos do not employ odds makers, they employ line movers.

Lines are set the same way you handicap games, off power rankings. The only difference is their power rankings are better then yours 🙂

Vegas doesn't take stands on games because they have stockholders to answer to.

Also, Vegas hasn't been the standard in sports for a long time. Despite their legal standing, offshore runs sports betting in Las Vegas and around the world.

Who? Sets the initial lines? In other words where do the lines open from? What book, oddsmaker etc... The person or book

CRIS and Pinnacle are where most of the major sports lines originate from. Who is first is relative but those are the two sites that employ linemakers and not line movers.

Thanks for the concurrence, Michael. I try to avoid setting the record straight on these matters, especially on the 'net, where you usually end up with a bunch of idiots calling you out, saying stuff like "YOU'RE WRONG! I know a guy who knows a guy who runs a book in Vegas, and he says blah, blah, blah, blah."
I knew the mods here know the reality of it.
For years the myth was Stardust puts up first weekly lines, not true, for most of the last 2 decades it has been IP or, now, Hilton, because of Ed Salmons.

The linemakers do make mistakes as seen in that Denver game where Denver won by about 20 points and they were designated +6.5 for the game, but the cappers noticed the mistake and Dunkel had the line set more correctly with the trend to win set in Denver's favor which was more accurate than what came out of Cris and Pinnacle.

Would it be correct to call the line of +6.5 in that Denver game a mistake?

I am just a learner sitting at the feet of people more knowledgable than myself,

I would not call it a mistake no. Upsets happen all the time and the lines are set to draw action, not indicate the potential winner and loser.

That's why lines move throughout the week to keep things even. If this were a "bad" line you would of seen more movement to adjust.
