THE military has ordered all civilians out of the Swat Valley as Pakistan braces for a protracted "guerilla war" between a conventional army and Taliban militants skilled in counter-insurgency.
A sense of relief has been evident in Islamabad since Thursday, when the Government declared it would "eliminate the terrorists".
Countering that is apprehension that the Pakistan army, for all its US-funded military hardware, has never won a convincing victory against the Taliban.
The militants control an estimated 70 per cent of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province and are well organised after years of fighting in Pakistan's mountainous tribal areas.
