"liberals"?

You think I'm wrong about that? Well, how was it legalized? By a vote in the Supreme Court: Roe v. Wade. 7-2... and only two of the Justices sitting at the time were appointed by a liberal-- one by Roosevelt and one by Kennedy. True, there was one other Justice appointed by a "democrat"-- Southern (read "conservative") Democrat Johnson. The remaining six Justices were appointed by GOP presidents.

Even if you give the Republicans the benefit of the doubt and give both 'no' votes to them (and two of the 'yes' votes to the "liberals")... there's still the bothersome little fact that at least four of Republican appointees MUST have voted in favor of abortion along with Johnson. But I am no longer willing to give the perpetrators the benefit of the doubt. Let's call a horse a horse. The two 'no' votes obviously were cast by the two liberal Justices appointed by Roosevelt and Kennedy; and the seven 'yes' votes were obviously cast by the six GOP Justices and the "conservative" Southern Democrat Johnson.

So why-- and how-- did the 'liberals' get stuck with the blame?

I'm old enough to remember exactly what happened. It's this simple: Nixon ran on a "Law & Order" platform and beat the Democrats over the head with accusations of them being soft on crime. And they lost the election-- with the help of the Watergate 'plumbers'. Several days after Nixon started his second term, the very first case to come before the Supreme Court was-- you guessed it-- Roe v. Wade. It became the law of the land. The Democrats, when asked by reporters if they were going to fight the decision replie, innocently enough, that it was the "law of the land"-- not wanting any more false accusations of being weak on "law and order". Yes, it's THAT simple. Ask anyone you know who is over 60. They'll tell you.
