Bodog bonds props
by: Brian Gabrielle

BoDog.com has so many baseball betting propositions that doing an online study of its offerings is like strolling though an old-fashioned penny candy store.

Three cents for this one, a nickel for that.

And what an array, from Aaron Harang and Adam Dunn to Carlos Zambrano and Barry Zito!

Say what you want about moody San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds, but he's BoDog.com's Flavor of the Month heading into Major League Baseball's 2007 campaign.

The big deal about Bonds this year is, of course, whether Bobby's boy can clobber Hank Aaron's revered career home run mark of 755.

Bonds, who has played his entire career with Pittsburgh and the Giants, frequently keeps fans guessing about his plans.

He enters the year with 734 round-trippers, including 2001, when he sent a single-season standard of 73 sailing to beat Mark McGwire's record of 70 set a few years earllier.

Print and online forum sentiments seem to be in Hammerin' Hank's corner, but bettors apparently believe Cooperstown soon will have to build a new niche for Bonds.

As of Wednesday, BoDog,com listed "Yes," Bonds will be baseball's new all-time home run king, as a minus $2.50 favorite, with "No" plus $1.70.

His home run total for '07 is 26 1/2, minus $1.15 both ways.

Bonds, who so far has escaped the clutches of feds investigating steroids use among pro atheletes, is 30/1 to slam MLB's highest homer total this seaon.

Albert Pujols, David Ortiz and Ryan Howard are 4/1 co-favorites.

BoDog.com bettors even can try to pinpoint when Bonds will become immortal.

The offshore book has broken down Bonds' season into segments, with before June 1 the long shot at 10/1; after June, periods are slashed to two weeks.

Players think Bonds will supplant Aaron during summer's dog days and have established Aug. 1 through 15 as a 3/1 choice.

They also think the momentous moment will occur on a Tuesday or Thursday (5/2) rather than the other days of the week (all 4/1).

Inning options are first through third, plus $1.40; fourth through sixth, plus $1.10; and seventh on, plus $1.65.

BoDog.com has the over/under on Bonds' '07 batting average at .285 ($1.15 both ways) and his RBI total at 80 1/2, again both ways.

Bonds is a 6/1 pick with the field to bag National League MVP honors.

BoDog.com, known internationally for posting off-the-wall props, has a pair of unique ones regarding drug use and the consumption of performance enhancers.

One asks which league first will suspend a player for failing a drug test.

The NL is minus $1.15 and the American League is minus $1.25.

Perhaps in a tribute to Bonds, BoDog.com asks whether the first player to be booted for using steroids will be a pitcher (plus $1.20), infielder (plus $1.50) or outfielder (plus $1.20).

Many props have a $300 limit.
