What is an "arbitrage" move on a game ? I'm not familiar with this term or how it works. Is it from the same word as "arbitrate" ?

I can, I can, pick me, pick me!!!!

I don't know what context that you saw it used in but the most common term associated with this is "sure bet". Now, you could of either seen it used on the "sure bet" context or the "scalp" context. Here are definitions for both.

a Sure Bet is basically a way to win money on a game that has higher dog line then a favorite line. I.E. Detroit +200 Arizona -190. There is a mathematical formula (usually in an Excel Spreadsheet) that will tell you exactly how much to bet on either site to show a profit regardless of the games outcome.

A scalp is similar, but it only allows you to win or break even, there is no guarantee. So, using the same lines as above, if you were to scalp the game you would need Detroit to win to get some money. If Arizona was to win they you would only get all your money wagered back. The profit is higher this way, but you are rolling the dice because the dog has to win. Granted you don't lose anything but you tie up money that you could be using for something else.

Hope this helps. Anymore questions just shoot!

Thanks for the explanation. So one would have to have thousands on account to be invested to win 50's or several hundred but the profit would be guaranteed in a "sure bet" situation.Probably not a bad way for someone with a large bankroll on account to go on a day when they really don't like any particular side. Good way to pick up several hundred dollars but differs from really having "action on a game". One thing I do know is that the local bookmaker DOES NOT have arbitrage betting. Thanks again.

You don't really need a big bankroll no. If you want to do it exclusivly then you will need a decent amount to invest. No less then 10k is my recommendation but if you just have a little in a couple account spread out you can do it at a smaller clip. Money is money.

But no it isn't like having action on the game. This is strictly for people that want to show a return on their money.
