9/8 Play: BENGALS -2, -110
Reason: Week 1 is always tricky because most, if not all of our handicapping is subjective. That being said, we feel we have a solid grasp on what both of these teams want to do. Both teams will be looking to control the clock with their outstanding running backs. Problem for San Diego is, their offensive line is not nearly as good as the Bengals, nor is their defense. While public perception is that San Diego "always has a good a defense", their unit is pretty banged up, especially in the secondary. On the offensive side of the ball, San Diego will be starting Drew Brees, who will be starting his first NFL game on the road, which is rarely a successful proposition. The Bengals will be giving the ball to Gus Frerrote, who, may not be the best starting QB in the NFL, but he knows how to win NFL games. Bottom line is that we can't find any part of San Diego (save the kicking game), that is better than any part of the Bengals. Throw in a little bit for home field advantage and we feel the Bengals win this thing by a TD.
