Of course you never bet the favorite in the Derby and with the wide open field I like to look for a "sleeper" around the middle of the betting pack. So today I am betting Saarland, morning line 15 - 1 although I expect that to come down. He is a strong finisher was sired by Unbridled, the 1990 winner. He finished 4th in the Wood but after the race they discovered a breathing problem that was corrected with about a 4 minute operation. His morning workouts this week were his best ever. So I'm betting Saarland across the board and hooking him up with Essence of Dubai in a exacta box. Essence is the only horse who has gone the derby distance twice and won both, although I don't particularly like betting foreign entries.
I have seen so many choose Saarland that I can't believe he isn't 2-1. Came Home is my choice. Good luck.
essence has been that distance but around 1 turn not 2 abig difference on turns at this track
Yes, I agree see alot of peopleon Saarland, will be interesting to see what the odds will be come post time. Only question on Came Home is the distance. Good luck.
For me I am rolling with...
Perfect Drift
Essence of Dubai
Medaglia d"Oro
Everyway I can bet this combo. Good Luck to Everyone!

mc, dont like perfect drift for the fact that hes a gelding and only 4 geldings have ever won the derby, none since 1929...gl in all that ya play
1929 was a long time ago, I'd say it's about time.
You may be right, I may not hit w/p/s but I think these are the most solid plays to box 6 ways to sunday!
Thanks Shooter and Thanks to Cappy for starting the Derby thread!

Word has it Saarland may go off around 5-1.
Came Home won going away in the Santa Anita...at 1 1/8 mile...this isn't much more than that race.
King's picks:
1. Medaglia d'Oro
2. Perfect Drift
3. Saarland
Good luck everybody and may everyone cash a ticket!
Well, just saw the current odds and Saarland has gone down to 5 - 1 and is the current favorite!! I can't believe he went all the way down to the favorite. I said never bet the favorite in the derby....but I guess I'll stick with Saarland, maybe the odds will go up.
