Michael Jordan makes his second appearance as an opposing player at the United Center when the Washington Wizards visit the Chicago Bulls tonight. The Wizards split 2 games in Chicago last year, winning with MJ, and losing without him. Jordan had 17 points and seven rebounds and Jerry Stackhouse led the Wizards with 25 points in a 105-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, although it was just their second win in six games. Meanwhile, the Bulls snapped a three-game losing streak with a 102-87 triumph over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
While backing the Bulls here is definitely swimming against the public wagering current, we see Chicago as a very solid play tonight. Their big win over Portland should serve as a much-needed shot of confidence in their collective arm. "Da Bulls" are 5-1 ATS off a win that snapped a losing streak of at least 3 games, including 2-0 already this season, and they are 4-1 ATS at home off a home underdog SU win. The Wizards, meanwhile, are a pathetic 2-10 SU over the last 12 and 1-6-1 ATS over the last 8 against such opponents. Another incredible number indicates that the Wizards are 1-21 SU on the road vs. opponents off a win of 10+ points!
Washington also finds themselves in a bit of a sandwich situation here, off their own home dog win and returning home to face Eastern Conference power Indiana next. The Wiz are a lackluster 2-7 ATS on the road off a home win, and a terrible 1-9 SU away off a home underdog victory. The Bulls simply trample such opponents, going 15-3 ATS in the host role. In single-game road trips, Washington may bring their luggage but they seem to leave their game back home, as they are 1-8-1 ATS, while the Bulls again excel vs. such visitors, going 10-2 ATS, including 9-1 if their opponent's last home game was a win.

Going against the Wizards, we note that off a home underdog win vs. San Antonio, the league is 2-9 ATS on the road, and on the road before hosting Indiana, the NBA is a jaw-dropping 2-16 ATS, including 0-8-1 over the last 10 games. In the Bulls favor, the Eastern Conference is 16-5 SU/15-6 ATS at home off a home win over Portland. The East is also a fantastic 12-3 ATS at home vs. a conference opponent after a home victory over a Western Conference foe. Finally, only 5 times in the past 7 seasons have NBA teams been a home dog in a game in which both teams are off home underdog upset wins. The home team has gone 4-1 ATS, including 1-0 for Chicago. It was almost exactly a year ago the last time this situation arose, as the Bulls hosted Milwaukee on December 31, 2001.
The home underdogs of 5½-points simply won the game SU 90-83.
This should be quite a tussle as Michael Jordan returns to his old stomping grounds, while the young Bulls try to defend their turf and show the Chicago fans that they, too, are worthy of their support. We expect the fans will get their wish as MJ has a good game, but the Bulls prevail in the end.
