Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action along with the most exciting matchups of the day? There is a college game, important baseball action and the WNBA Playoffs continue Here is a brief look at the top four important matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Hawaii (1-2) at BYU (3-0), Lavell Edwards Stadium, Provo, Ut

BYU is struggling to score as QB Riley Nelson is doubtful due to a back issue. Last week, BYU scored just six points at Boise State (7-6 loss) as Nelson turned it over four times. Freshman Taysom Hill could also play if Nelson can't. Hawaii has their own issues, falling to Nevada, 69-24 and USC 49-10 sandwiched by a win over FCS Lamar 54-2. Their defense has been awful so maybe BYU can put up some points. Hawaii is 4-1 ATS L5 on the road in series.. The Cougars are a 27.5-point favorite with a total of 50.

2)NY Yankees at Toronto, Hiroki Kuroda (14-11, 3.34 ERA) vs. Chad Jenkins (0-2, 4.24 ERA)

The Yankees are looking to wrap up the AL East though the Orioles are making things tougher. New York leads the majors in home runs and will be taking on a pitching staff that served up seven blasts in a 12-2 loss to the Orioles on Wednesday. The Blue Jays’ staff has surrendered the most home runs in baseball and has been touched for an average of 6.3 runs over the last 10 games. Kuroda is slipping some late in the season as he's posted a 5.50 ERA in his last three starts. Yankees are 13-4-1 OVER last 18 Friday games. The Yankees opened as a -210 favorite with a total of 9.

3)Tampa Bay at Chicago White Sox, Jeremy Hellickson (9-10, 3.20 ERA) vs. Gavin Floyd (10-11, 4.56 ERA)

The Rays have little margin of error if they want to catch Baltimore or Oakland for the final wild card. The White Sox keep fading in the AL Central and need a strong performance from an inconsistent right-hander in Floyd. The way things are headed, neither team may make the postseason, considering Tampa Bay has to jump over the Angels as well. Tampa Bay is 13-4 last 17 Friday games. The Rays opened as a -120-favorite with a total of 8.5.

4)WNBA Playoffs Continue on ESPN2 (Atlanta at Indiana, 7pmET; Seattle at Minnesota

The semifinals continue on ESPN2 as Atlanta (19-15) takes on Indiana (22-12) on the road. Indiana is a -4.5 favorite with a total of 154.5 in Game 1 of this series. At 9pmET, Seattle (16-18) is at Minnesota (27-7), who is 16-1 at home this season. Minnesota is a 11.5-point favorite with a total of 149.5. Minnesota is the highest-scoring team (86ppg) in the league, while Seattle is second-lowest (71.2ppg).

5)2012 Ryder Cup

Team USA will attempt to capture its second victory in three tries as the 2012 Ryder Cup will make its way to the Chicago area from the historic Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.
