Five Things You Need to Know

Looking for some exciting events on Friday? Want to lay some action down on some national tv games? Here are some of the top four matchups of the day including football and baseball playoffs along with future odds.

1)Connecticut (3-4) at Syracuse (2-4), Carrier Dome

TLast year: CONNECTICUT (-1) over Syracuse, 28-21. The Huskies fell to Temple last week, 17-14, while Syracuse is coming off a 23-15 loss to Rutgers on the road. While UConn struggles to score (19ppg), they hang in most games because of their defense. The Huskies’ defense ranks sixth nationally in total yards allowed (261ypg) and they rank 10th nationally in tackles for loss with 52. Cuse needs a big game from QB Ryan Nassib. Connecticut is 5-0 ATS L5 in series. Syracuse is a 4.5-point favorite with a total of 43.5.

2)San Francisco at St. Louis, Game 5, NLCS Busch Stadium

Barry Zito (15-8, 4.15) takes on Lance Lynn (18-7, 3.78 ERA). The Giants are taking a gamble by relying on Zito in this important Game 5. It's a risk because the Cards hit lefties (.268) better than they do right-handers (.262). Lynn allowed four runs in six innings in his last start against the Giants on Aug. 7. The Giants are 2-6 in Zito's last 8 starts vs. Cardinals.

3)WNBA Finals, Game 3, Minnesota at Indiana

The series is tied at 1-1 after Minnesota took care of business on Wednesday. The Lynx won 83-71 as Seimone Augustus scored 23 of her 27 points in the second half to lead Minnesota. But Indiana won Game 1 so they have the home court advantage. Now the question for the Fever is whether star shooting guard Katie Douglas (ankle) can return for Game 3. Indiana is a 1-point favorite with a total of 150.5.

4)NBA Preseason: Minnesota at Chicago

The NBA Preseason continues but Kevin Love won't be playing for the Timberwolves. He broke his hand attempting knuckle pushups during a workout. That means more pressure on Derrick Williams as Love will be out at least the first month of the regular season. Chicago has their own injury issues as they are waiting on star guard Derrick Rose (ACL) to return healthy.

5)Odds to win 2012-13 NBA Championship

Here are the latest odds to win the NBA Championship. The Miami Heat are favorites, but the revamped Los Angeles Lakers are right behind them in odds from 5dimes. Looking for a sleeper? How about the LA Clippers at +2800.
