NBA Playoff System
It is hard not to get excited about the NBA playoffs this season. They should be as competitive as we have seen in a long while. So what do we do about handicapping them?
While we do not advocate blindly betting systems, we do advocate using them as supplementary data in your handicapping. After all, what happened yesterday or the day before does not assure us of anything tomorrow. However, there is a fairly well known NBA playoff system that is definitely worth a look. Is called the Zigzag theory.
It simply says to play on the revenge minded team (the straight up loser) in the next game of the series. The thinking is; the straight up loser of the preceding game is more likely to play with urgency and intensity in the following game. On the other hand, the winning team is more likely to be overconfident and to relax a bit in the ensuing game. The result is likely an over performance vs. an under performance scenario. The odds makers do not often account for this dynamic in the line and betting into this system can produce excellent results.
As a matter of fact, this system is more than 100 games above .500 in the last 15 seasons. We believe the balance of power this year may make this dynamic even stronger. Having said all of this, do not blindly play a system. Systems can help you make money, but make sure to have back up data and analysis in support of the system. Systems are best used in combination with other systems, formulas, trends, and research.
