11/25 Play: EAGLES +7
Reason: Our numbers are calling for a 17-14 Eagles win. We feel McNabb is worth at least 6 points on the line, so our final predicted score calls for a 20-17 SF win. The Eagles are very well coached, and have an excellent defense. The closest thing to this caliber of defense that San Fran has faced was probably Denvers. Denver beat SF that day 24-14 in SF, with the key being Denvers ability to hold SF to only 71 yards rushings on 20 carries. Denver has the best run defense in the league, allowing only 68.10 yards per game. The Eagles are ranked 4th allowing 93.6 yards per contest. Both teams have excellent defenses, but the Eagles secondary is definitely the best the 49ers have and will face all season. The 49ers probably have the better offense, even if McNabb were playing, but they really haven't put that many points on the board this season. Over their last 3 games the 49ers are averaging roughly the league average of 20 points per game. Working against the 49ers here is the fact that their last 3 games have been close, physical contests. They've had to play Oakland, KC and San Diego. All 3 games were determined by 4 points or less. In out opinion that stetch has definitely taken some toll on the SF players. The Detmer Factor: It's no secret that in football and basketball when a key player goes down, the team (if they are a good one) usually rally for at least the first game the superstar misses. To simply say that Detmer sucks is too easy, and a cop out. Nobody knows how good or bad he's going to play. The man hasn't taken a meaningful snap in a game in 3 years. Speculation will only deplete your bankroll. We like Philly 7.
