Vegas EXPERTS
Miami Heat at Charlotte Bobcats
Monday, March 6, 7:35 PM EST

The Heat, a good team, won the previous game by only two points against a below average team. The Bobcats, a below average team, lost the last game against a good team by 14 points. Look for Miami to rebound will a big game and Charlotte to lose by many points. The Heat is 3-0 ATS in the last three road games. The Bobcats are 1-2 ATS in the last three home games.

Play on: Miami

The real Animal
Today's Pick: Suns/Hornets OVER
NBA
Phoenix vs. New Orleans
8:00 EST

Five days ago New Orleans scored a record-low 16 points against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Hornets had 51 points at halftime in that game after hitting 22-of-40 or 55 percent from the floor. They enjoyed a 59-49 lead with eight minutes to go in the 3rd quarter before missing their next 21 consecutive field goal attempts. I’ll go out on a limb and believe the Hornets had a few extra shooting practice sessions the past five days. But offense shouldn’t be a problem tonight when they host the Phoenix Suns. New Orleans has surpassed the 100-point plateau in 5/7 games recently and despite sore rib, Chris Paul is expected to play tonight. Meanwhile the Suns are just tearing it up offensively scoring 115, 123, 123, 111, and 136 points in their last five games. 210 seems like a low total especially considering Phoenix has gone ‘OVER’ in five straight and 12/16 games recently. About a month ago, New Orleans exceeded Vegas expectations in eight consecutive games with five of those coming at home. The Suns are 34-18 ‘OVER’ the last two years when the posted total is between 200 and 210 points. They are 48-27 ‘OVER’ if they scored 110 or more points in their previous game. They are 46-29 ‘OVER’ if favored by 3 ½ to 9 ½ points. Finally the Suns are an incredible 26-4 ‘OVER’ this year when both they and their opponent scores at least 98 points in a game. It’s hard for me to fathom that both teams won’t surpass that figure tonight. A league-wide system that is 72-40 ‘OVER’ the last three years to suggest taking an up-tempo team (averaging 83 shots or more per game) to go ‘OVER’ if they come off three consecutive games hitting 47 percent or higher. The Suns are well past that figure hitting 56.7, 51.7, and 54.2 percent in their last three contests. In addition, Phoenix has allowed their last eight opponents to attempt 85 or more field goal attempts and that is an extremely high number. If the Hornets hit anywhere near 50 percent tonight, this game should sky ‘OVER’ the total. I'll go 'OVER'

John Fina's Free NBA Selection
March 6, 2006

Selection: New Jersey Nets -4

Reason: Put us down on the New Jersey Nets -4 for our Free NBA Selection on Monday. Today the Sacramento Kings will be on the road as they take on the New Jersey Nets. We will side with the Nets minus the points. Here's why... The Nets come into this game off a home win on Saturday, and should carry that momentum into tonight's game against the Kings. We do have something great working for us tonight... We have a Kings team that will be on the road where they are a terrible 9-20 on the season, while we have a Nets team that will be at home where they are a rock solid 19-8 on the season. Adding to our value with the Nets being at home is the fact that the home team is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings. Put it this way... The Nets are the better overall team and with the "home/road" factor involved we have no other choice but to lay the points. Take the Nets!
