Weather to watch

Rockies at Cardinals: Start of July means the mercury is rising on those thermometers. Game-time temperature at Busch Stadium is supposed to be 94 F.

Red Sox at Athletics: The wind is blowing out again at Oakland Coliseum. The weatherman says there should be a 13 mph wind blowing directly out to center field.

Who’s hot

Spain’s international soccer team: After winning the Euro 2012 final in convincing fashion, La Roja have now won three consecutive competitive tournaments (Euro 2008, World Cup 2010, Euro 2012). To think this team used to be considered an international underachiever before winning in 2008.

Texas Rangers: They’ve won five in a row and 13 of their last 15 games. Only three of those 15 games were on the road.

Who’s not

Phoenix Mercury: Lost and failed to cover against Washington on Sunday dropping the 2009 champs record to 4-10 SU and 5-9 ATS this season.

Philadelphia Philles: They losing streak got pushed to five games after falling to the Marlins on Sunday. They’re now just 8-20 since June 2. Yuck.

Key stat

24 for 24

Yaroslava Shvedova had a perfect set (24 points played, 24 points won in a 6-0 set), the first time in 44 years of women’s tennis. Even crazy, it happened in a third round Wimbledon match against French Open runner-up Sara Errani. Shvedova plays Serena Williams on Monday and is a +368 underdog.

Notable quotable

“Daryl Morey proves that when people think you're smart before you've accomplished anything, you empower yourself to do dumb things.” – Dan Wolken writer for TheDaily.com and FoxSports on Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey signing Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Omer Asik to a 3-year, $25.1 million offer sheet. Asik averaged 3.3 points and 4.7 rebounds and 21.3 minutes per game last season.

Notes and tips

Tiger Woods won the AT&T National, making it three wins in his last seven starts. No majors, but Tiger is playing much better. Oddsmakers took notice too. After winning at Congressional, Woods' odds to win the British Open dropped from 10/1 to 5/1 at the Las Vegas Hotel SuperBook. Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood are the next closest at 12/1, Luke Donald's next at 15/1 and Phil Mickelson is tied with at large group for fifth fave at 30/1.
