5 Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your week off right? Looking for some action and the most interesting events of the day? There are two NFL games, key baseball and the U.S. Open men's championship. Here is a brief look at the top four important matchups of the day along with a glance at future odds.

1)Cincinnati at Baltimore, M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, Md., 7pmET (ESPN)

Cincinnati has closed the gap with Pittsburgh and Baltimore in the AFC North. Now they have to prove it. Baltimore lacks a pass rush without OLB Terrell Suggs. Joe Flacco will need to put up points against a tough Bengals' defense. Cincy adds BenJarvus Green-Ellis, but they should be more of a passing team as long as young QB Andy Dalton continues to progress. Bengals are 4-1-1 ATS L6 in series.. Baltimore is a 7-point favorite and the total is 41.5.

2)San Diego at Oakland, Oakland Alameda-Coliseum, 10:15pmET (ESPN)

A lot of people are counting the Chargers out, but they still have QB Phillip Rivers, who is coming off a rough year. The addition of WR Robert Meachem will help the receiving corps. LB Shaun Phillips has 11.5 career sacks against the Raiders and will pressure immobile Carson Palmer all night. Oakland will be led by new head coach Dennis Alllen, QB Carson Palmer and RB Darren McFadden. The Underdog is 6-0 ATS L6 in series. Oakland is a 1-point favorite and the total is 47.

3)Washington at NY Mets, Gio Gonazalez (18-7, 2.98 ERA) vs. Colin McHugh (0-1, 3.27 ERA), 7:05pmET

The Nats are 32 games over .500 but just 5.5 games ahead of Atlanta, who has won five straight, in the NL East. Washington lost 2 of 3 at home to the Miami Marlins. With Stephen Strasburg shut down, Gio Gonzalez becomes the ace of the staff. He needs to pitch well against a Mets that has nothing to lose, though they were just swept by the Braves. Washington is 16-5 last 21 Monday games. Washington opened as a -145 favorite with a total of 7.5.

4)U.S. Open men's championship, #3 Andy Murray vs. #2 Novak Djokovic, 4pmET (CBS)

This could be a classic matchup though the rain has delayed it a day. You never know how players will react. Djokovic (-260) is the favorite over Murray (+220), who just won the gold medal in the Olympics. But he's waiting for his first-ever Grand Slam victory. Interesting tidbit. Murray lost his first four finals and so did his coach Ivan Lendl, who won his first title on his fifth shot.

5)Odds to Win the 2012-13 NCAA men's basketball championship

We're a little over a month away from the start of college basketball's first practice. Here are the latest odds from the first 25 teams from 5dimes. Kentucky is once again the favorite though Indiana, is a close second followed by Louisville and North Carolina.
