Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your sports week off right? Looking for some action and the most exciting matchups of the day? There's one NFL game with two playoff baseball games. Here is a brief look at the top three important matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Houston at NY Jets, 8:35pmET, MetLife Stadium

The Texans are coming off a 38-14 win over Tennessee at home, while the Jets fell at home against San Francisco, 34-0 last week. Houston (4-0) has been the most dominant team in the NFL and they face the Jets who lost CB Darrelle Revis two weeks ago to an ACL injury and WR Santonio Holmes (foot) for the season. Houston is 4-1 ATS L5 as a road fave. Houston is an 8-point favorite with a total 40.5.

2)Washington at St. Louis, Game 2, NLDS, Jordan Zimmerman (12-8, 2.94 ERA) vs. Jaime Garcia (7-7, 3.92ERA)

Game 1 was a battle of good pitching and very little clutch hitting. The Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals combined to leave 20 runners on base on Sunday as the Nats came back to win, 3-2. . Tyler Moore hit the go-ahead two-run single to give the Nationals the lead and eventually a 1-0 lead in the series. The Cardinals have not lost back-to-back games since Sept. 14-15 and will attempt to even the series when they host Game 2 on Monday. Washington is 18-5 the last 23 Monday games.

3)NY Yankees at Baltimore, Game 2, ALDS, Andy Pettitte (5-4, 2.87 ERA) vs. Wei-Yin Chen (12-1, 4.02 ERA)

The Yankees won the first game, 7-2 from Camden Yards on Sunday night. After a long rain delay, both pitchers (Jason Hammel and C.C. Sabathia) pitched gems. But it was Sabathia who was there at the end after the Yankees scored five runs in the ninth against Baltimore closer Jim Johnson, to break a 2-2 tie. So this one is critical for the Orioles, as the series goes back to the Bronx on Wednesday. Yankees are 19-7 in Pettitte's last 26 starts against Orioles.

4)Connecticut (25-9) at Indiana (22-12), WNBA, Game 2

This is Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Connecticut won Game 1 of the series, 76-64. Tina Charles scored 18 points and pulled down 15 boards to lead the Sun, while Katie Douglas dropped in 27 to lead the Fever. Indiana is a 3.5-point favorite and the total is 148.

5)Odds to win 2012-13 NBA Championship

The NBA preseason has begun and while it might not be meaningful, at least basketball will start on time this year. Unlike last year (or this year's hockey season), it's nice to know a sport isn't going through labor issues. The Miami Heat remain the favorite at 5dimes.
