Five Things You Need to Know

Looking for some exciting events to start off your week? Want to lay some action down on some national tv games? Here are some of the top four matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Denver at San Diego, 8:35pmET, Qualcomm Stadium

Last week, Denver lost at New England, 31-21, while San Diego fell at New Orleans, 31-24 on Sunday night. Last year: San Diego (-3’) over DENVER, 29-24; Denver (+5’) over SAN DIEGO, 16-13ot. Peyton Manning is back on prime time TV? San Diego has a pretty good quarterback in Phillip Rivers. This should be a shootout. At least on paper. The road team is 4-1-1 ATS L6 in series. San Diego is a 1-point favorite with a total of 47.

2)St. Louis at San Francisco, Game 2, NLCS, Chris Carpenter (1-2, 2.78 ERA) vs. Ryan Vogelsong (14-9, 3.33 ERA)

St. Louis won Game 1, 6-4 as Carlos Beltran and David Freese went deep. The Cardinals just continues to defy the odds, after winning the World Series last year and then losing Albert Pujols in the offseason. The Giants are never done with their strong pitching but they don't want to lose both games at home. San Francisco is 21-6-1 Over last 28 home games. San Francisco is a -120 favorite.

3)NBA Preseason. Washington at Brooklyn, Barlcays Center

Monday night, the Brooklyn Nets play their first preseason home game at Barclays Center in Prospect Heights. They'll take on the Washington Wizards, who will be without John Wall and Nene. Brooklyn added Joe Johnson in the offseason, which should give them one of the best backcourts in the Eastern Conference (along with Deron Williams). The game will air on YES Network. No line at press time.

4)NBA Preseason, Boston at Philadelphia

Remember when Julius Erving and Larry Bird fought in a preseason game? Ok, that over 25 years ago and those two teams were huge Eastern Conference rivals. Kevin Garnett won't be fighting Jrue Holiday. The Sixers adjusted their roster, adding oft-injured Andrew Bynum (who's out) and Jason Richardson, while getting rid of Andre Iguodala. Boston lost Ray Allen but picked up a younger version in Jason Terry. No line at press time.

5)Odds to win 2012-13 NBA MVP

The NBA preseason has begun and while it might not be meaningful, at least basketball will start on time this year. Unlike last year (or this year's hockey season), it's nice to know a sport isn't going through labor issues. Will LeBron James another MVP season? You can bet on it at 5dimes.
