Five Things You Need to Know

Looking for some exciting events to start off your week? Want to lay some action down on some national tv games? Here are some of the top four matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Detroit at Chicago, 8:40pmET, Soldier Field

Last year: DETROIT (-5) over Chicago, 24-13; CHICAGO (-3) over Detroit, 37-13. Detroit is coming off a 26-23 win at Philadelphia, while Chicago is coming off a bye. On Oct. 7, the Bears beat Jacksonville, 41-3 on the road. Detroit needs to get the ball to Calvin Johnson since it will be difficult to run on Chicago's defense. Chicago is 3-8 ATS L11 as Monday night favorites. Chicago is a 6.5-point favorite with a total of 47.5.

2)St. Louis at San Francisco, Game 7, NLCS, Kyle Lohse (18-3, 2.79 ERA) vs. Matt Cain (17-7, 3.33 ERA)

San Francisco won Game 6 on Sunday night, 6-1 as Ryan Vogelsong pitched another gem. There's nothing like a Game 7 in baseball or any other sport. Both pitchers will need to be at their best and you can't ask for better pitchers than Lohse and Cain for this situation. San Francisco is 9-3 Over last 12 on Monday night games. San Francisco is a -137 favorite with a total of 7.

3)NBA Preseason. Milwaukee at Toronto, Air Canada Centre

Toronto could be a sleeper in the NBA this year. The season starts on Oct. 30 so we are about a week away. Toronto added Kyle Lowry at point guard to solidify that position. Rookie Jonas Valanciunas has added some size and rebounding to the starting lineup. Milwaukee will be a high-scoring team led by the backcourt of Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings. No line at press time.

4)NBA Preseason, Golden State at LA Clippers

The Warriors always seem to have the same type of teams. They can run and score but can't defend. Golden State is 5-1 in preseason and while that doesn't really mean much, this has become a pretty deep team with Carl Landry and Richard Jefferson added to the mix. They aren't as talented as the Clippers, led by Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. No line at press time.

5)Odds to win 2012-13 NBA MVP

The NBA preseason near the end of the line, which means the season is close to starting (Oct. 30). . Unlike last year (or this year's hockey season), it's nice to know a sport isn't going through labor issues. Will LeBron James another MVP season? Here are the latest lines from 5dimes.
