Guys,
This past weekend my son and I went to the N.Y.State Blues festival in Syracuse. It was a last minute deal that paid off bigtime. We got to see Al Kooper and his band. Al is a 60's and 70's blues legend who played with the likes of Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield, Elvin Bishop and Steve Stills. I know most of you guys are young but some of those names should ring a bell.
The high point of the show was a west coast blues guitarist named Robben Ford who absolutely blew us away. He is a white guy, middle aged, with a young band backing him.I had heard the name but wasn't real familiar with his music. All I can say is WOW. For those of you into blues guitar he is touring this summer and his schedule can be found at RobbenFord.com. You won't be sorry.
This is not a sports related post but just something i wanted to share with you guys. Over the last 30 yrs I have heard Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman,BB King, and Jerry Garcia, and others. This guys virtuosity on his instrument equalled anything i have heard.
love the blues brother...my brother and i (the hook) are making our usual trek aug 7,8, and 9 to see the allman brother in atlanta charlotte and raleigh...you can't beat it man!!! have a blast!!!!!!
and ps play some serious air guitar LOL!!!
Hooker,
Dicky Betts and his band played on Sun night at this festival. Will he be with the Allman's when you guys see them ?
nope....over a year ago after a show here in columbia sc the band apparently pulled him aside and played some of the recordings from some of their recent shows and said they thought he sounded like $hit...anyway it lead to the band basically kicking him out!!!!
i think the reason they used for getting rid of him was he was back on the heroin...kind of ironic to get kicked out of the allman brothers for drugs, LOL!!!
Allman's rock! midnight rider is one of my favorite tunes.
