Reason:Some preseason games seem like a crap shoot, with the handicapper unable to get any sort of viable information out of the coach regarding playing time and motivation. Others are like an open book, such as tonight’s Chargers/49ers game. Just ask 49ers coach Steve Marriuci. "We're going to play our young guys for most of the game, and kind of a makeshift defense and special teams," Mariucci said. "We'll give it our best shot and try to get some energy out there." He then added, "Their approach to the game will be different than ours…they're a little more rested up than we are. They'll play it more like a preseason game. We simply have to use caution and be conservative for obvious reasons."

"I think it's common knowledge in the National Football League that when you go into the final preseason game, there's nothing more quickly forgotten than the outcome of that game because you're moving on to the opener," Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer said.
