NFLX HANDICAPPING TIP #3 – COACHING TENDENCIES

Today’s NFLX Handicapping Tip is:

Play ON a coach in a situation where his teams have historically done well.

As we noted in our first 2 NFLX articles, coaching is single biggest predictive factor in the Preseason, as coaches can have a far greater influence on the outcome of a game than during the regular season. Some coaches like to win at home. Others get their teams up to play a favored opponent, while others may be focused on getting his team used to winning the road. There are obviously numerous scenarios to examine.

Last year, PRO INFO SPORTS made Dallas a 2’ STAR SELECTION in Seattle for a Monday Night Football game due to coaching tendencies. In our GAMEDAY INVESTMENT e-LERT, we wrote:

“Bill Parcells has shown in the past that he likes to win preseason games. Since he has taken over as head coach for Dallas in 2003 the Cowboys are 5-4 ATS, but 3 of those 4 losses are in Game 1; otherwise, they are 5-1 ATS under Parcells. Coaching is normally the biggest factor in our preseason handicapping. We take a close look at how teams in general, and coaches in specific, do after a lackluster loss and/or an impressive victory. Generally, a win in the preseason allows a coach to feel zero pressure the following week, and he can look at players. A loss, on the other hand, may mean negative press and questions at training camp. This often leads to a coach going for a win the following week, or at least a much stronger performances. Generally, teams are better ATS after a loss and weaker after a win. Parcells has been very consistent in how he deals with losing. He wins. His 4 teams are a combined 12-2 ATS off an exhibition SU loss, and we note that Dallas is 6-1 ATS as an underdog of more than 2 points.”

The Cowboys were in the driver’s seat for most of the game and came away with an 18-10 road underdog victory. As shown, knowing when a coach will be going for the win is key.
