Oh man is this guy screwed now...
CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs star Sammy Sosa was ejected in the first inning of Tuesday night's game against Tampa Bay right when umpires found cork in his shattered bat.
ESPN's Harold Reynolds reports -- after talking to a a representative in the Cubs public relations department -- that Sosa will admit in his postgame presser that the bat he used tonight was corked.
Sosa will say the bat is usually used in home run hitting exhibitions but somehow it got mixed in with his game bats. He says he has never used a corked bat in a major league game before tonight.
The Cubs had runners at second and third when Sosa broke his bat with a grounder to second that at first appeared to drive in a run.
But crew chief Tim McClelland gathered with the other three umpires to examine the bat. Cubs manager Dusty Baker came out and the umpires showed the bat to him.
Mark Grudzielanek was sent back to third base, the run was wiped off the board and Sosa was ejected as he stood in the dugout.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
damn boss...you beat me to it... the guy that set records for his multiple yrs with 60+ hr's...all that [censored] is down the tube...DAMN!!!
everything he's done is now in doubt!!!!!
Yea man, I don't know how he recovers from this one. They are saying that he is gonna come out and say that it was a bat he uses in exhibitions? Please save all that. Like a guy that plays baseball for a living can't keep his bats straight? That is like me confusing my computer with a calculator. He's [censored] basically I think.
Plus that is nice to know that when those people come to watch him play home run derby they are really watching his bat do all the work.

His credibility is shot now!! But really think about ut. How much does the corked bat help. A homerun only needs to go 38o ft. I don't think the cork bat adds 150ft to the balls he bombs
What about this though Kenny, if a corked bat doesn't do that much then why use it?
Don't know much about bats and sh*t but if it offered nothing or very little he wouldn't use it in my opinion.
Maybe it doesn't help with distance but maybe it helps with stamina. He uses one everyday and maybe he is able to retain more power then someone swinging that extra couple ounces each day.
Anyway, I know that is kinda retarded but the point I am making is that if someone like that (not like a pitcher lets say) is using a corked bat you have to wonder why. Even in exhibiton. Especially because of the stigma it has. You have to want to use one of them pretty bad when you know what will happen if you get busted. Especially if you are Sammy Sosa.

this guy is a piece of [censored]! why do you even have a corked bat in the first place. and he is like no this is the only time? come on now what kinda [censored] is that? if you don't use corked bats you shouldnt have corked bats damnit
After everything I have seen and heard, I think he's being honest. He admitted he had a corked bat for BP. That's bad enough, but I think it's as bad as it gets. He didn't try to cover it up, he didn't try to scramble to get the broken pieces back as someone would do if they are hiding it, and he did agree for MLB to check the rest of his bats. It's one of the worst mistakes to ever make, but I think he's being honest about what he did and hasn't done.
