THRASHERS

Game: Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Atlanta Thrashers Game Time: 10/29/2005 7:05:00 PM Prediction: Atlanta Thrashers Reason: The Lightning embarrassed the Thrashers by a 6-0 score, here in Atlanta, last Thursday night. Tonight should be a solid spot for the Thrashers to get some payback. The Lightning come off a win vs. Washington last night and will now be playing in their third different city in the past four nights. Look for an inspired effort from the Thrashers as they grab the first game of this home and home series. Play on ATLANTA

ISLANDERS

Game: Buffalo Sabres vs. New York Islanders Game Time: 10/29/2005 7:05:00 PM Prediction: New York Islanders Reason: The Sabres defeated the Islanders in Buffalo on opening night. This should be a strong spot for the Isles to avenge that loss. The Sabres come off a hard-fought loss at New Jersey last night. Tonight, they will be playing in their third different city in the past four nights. Prior to the opening day loss, the Isles had beaten the Sabres seven straight times. Look for them to have fresher legs and return to their winning ways in this series tonight. Play on NEW YORK

PENGUINS

Game: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Game Time: 10/29/2005 7:35:00 PM Prediction: Pittsburgh Penguins Reason: The Penguins finally broke into the win column on Thursday. They were down 4-0 but stormed back in a big way by scoring seven unanswered goals en route to a 7-5 victory. Tonight looks like a good spot to build some momentum from that performance and for them to string together consecutive victories. Carolina comes off a wild game vs. the Flyers last night and will now be playing it's third game in the past four nights. The Hurricanes defeated the Penguins in a shootout back on October 7th. Look for a highly motivated effort as the Pens avenge that loss. Play on PITTSBURGH

25* College Conference Game of the Year

Last week Texas beat Texas Tech 52-17 as -17 home favorites. On offense they totaled 21 first downs, rushed for 40-205 and passed for 12-22-2-239. On defense they allowed 29 first downs, rushing of 29-99 and passing of 42-64-1-369. Last week Oklahoma St lost to Iowa St. 10-37 as -14 1/2 road dogs. On offense they totaled 21 first downs, rushed for 34-123 and passed for 24-40-4-203. On defense they allowed 16 first downs, rushing of 44-147 and passing of 13-20-0-227. Texas is off of their "big win" versus then undefeated Texas Tech in a big Texas showdown. That game was never in doubt and the Raiders were simply exposed and over-matched on both sides of the ball. Oklahoma State is reeling. The once proud program is down in the dumps and they are 3-4 SU and 1-5 ATS losing 5 straight ATS! Although it is homecoming for the Cowboys, we don't expect much of a party! Texas is simply on a roll going 7-0 SU and ATS, are 5-1 versus the Cowboys and are on a 11-3 ATS run dating back to last season! They are ranked #1 in the BCS and will pour it on with no letup with only Baylor on deck next. Texas wins BIG!

Atlanta Fixers Pix of The Week

PURDUE +15½ @ Penn St- Heralded runners DJ Dozier & Blair Thomas can’t get anything going on the ground, and the Boiler’s D, led by Rod Woodson, keeps the pressure on QB Chuck Fusina. Head Coach Joe Paterno blows off retirement talk, saying, “It’s 1987, I can coach at least another 20 yrs… Where’s the beef??? We’ll see…

OKLAHOMA +1½ @ Nebraska- The ‘80s is built on dirty recruiting & cocaine, no place more prevalent and/or obvious that ha-what is going on in Norman & Lincoln. Coach Switzer tells Bosworth to go break Turner Gill’s legs, instead he asked Irving Fryar out on a date… Later, Vince Ferragamo actually throws a forward pass, intercepted by seldom-used scrub Mike Babb. The Scooner Sooner prevails…

GEORGIA +4½ vs Florida- Porned-out QB Kerwin Bell defies coach Charlie Pell and runs a jail break passing play, but flea-infested Dawg defender Terry Hoage steps in a snares the int. But Lindsay Scott drops a sure TD as the Gators win a close game by a point… Assistant coach Ray Goff downplays rumors that he’ll be the next head coach of Gardner Webb, instead mentioning his addiction to chicken fingers…

OLE PISS +20 @ All-Barn- The confederate flag-waving Rebel phans go nuts as their stout defense, led by Freddie Joe Nunn & Chuck Commiskey, keep Pat Dye’s Tigers out of the end zone all day. 4 field goals by Neil O'Donoghue allow the Plainsmen(make up your minds) to escape with a close Homecoming victory…

KANSAS STATE +7½ vs Colorado- An injured Solomon Wilcots can only watch as his Buffs blow a huge lead and fall to the horrendous Mildkats in Manhattan. The infallible Steve Grogan leads the Kats on three 4th qtr scoring drives, and coach Ellis Rainsberger gets doused with a cooler containing some bizarre green liquid in it...

TEXAS TECH -11 @ Baylor- Spike Dykes has really gotten this Lubbock-based school on the map of late. His Raiders have slinger Billy Joe Tolliver running the offense & Lemuel Stinson headlining the defense. The Bears counter with Cody Carlson & Mike Singletary, who scouts say will never play a down in the NFL… recently, Bear players were approached by local minister David Koresh about having bible study at his ranch outside of town. No word yet if they have accepted…

SAN DIEGO ST +7 vs The Christ Punchers of Texas- No one east of the Mississippi can stop Aztec WR Webster Slaughter, so why assume the Horny Toads will be any different. Toad DB Lyle Blackwood calls Webster “the best playmaker I have ever seen”. Now that the Padres have blown the World Series to the Tigers, Jack Murphy Stadium can be permanently situated to hosting football, right after they set the record for most people doing the "Truffle Shuffle"...

UTEP -19 @ ****-Fried Rice- Here in 1984, we find at least one school still running the wishbone, much ot the delight of Miner All-American Seth Joyner. “I’ll be in Tommy Kramer’s back pocket all f*%#ing day!!!”, says an angry Joyner. Meanwhile, the Owls from smoggy Houston have no offense, as coach Watson Brown positions himself for that big-time head coaching breakthrough… Which high-profile job will come calling??? We can only guess Notre Dame or Alabama…

MIAMI OHIO -23 @ Temple- Cleve Dickerson slice & dices the Hooter’s front line for 200 rushing yds and 4 tds in an easy win for the Redskins. DT Joe Klecko calls Cleve “awesome” and hopes they will meet again the NFL someday. Even with Fat Albert creator Bill Cosby on the sidelines, the Owls send the 62,000 screaming fans who packed into Veterans Stadium home disappointed…

TOLEDO -8 @ Michigan Directional School #420-C- A long and storied list of great Rocket QBs gets another name today, as Gene Swick shatters school records for passing yardage and interceptions as the Pocket Rockets roll past the Chippewas. Rocket defense frazzled CMU’s usually steady QB Gary Hogeboom sacking him 8 times and temporarily damaging his future pro career…

BC “Ghostly” Gonzo Pix of the Week

Weak 9 (Week Ending 10/29) aka All Hallow’s Eve Week

Welcome to BC Gonzo’s 8th Annual Halloween Pix. This year’s version will not feature Phil “Great Pumpkin” Fulmer, Tommy “Goblin” West, Frank “Scarface” Beamer, the Ghost of Dennis Franchione’s Career, or any casual reference to the disastrous “Urban Legend” series of horror flicks. What we do have, however, are several Big 10(11?) locks, a BobCock Beat Down, WAC pillow fight, and the Battle for the SEC Worst. And what I have here is a lead-in that is getting progressively worse…. So Let’s Get Down to Business....

5 Star Picks:

Michigan –3 @ Northwestern: Once considered a killing field for opponents, Ryan Field is now a formidable place to play. Of course, it was once called Dyke Stadium; and Northwestern students used to prefer sitting at home on Saturdays, having pot parties and watching Japanese Scato Porn movies…. Nonetheless, look for ChadWick Henne and the Wolverine wide-outs to treat the MildKat secondary like a scout team. Darnell Autry must be rollin’ over in his grave…

Ohio –4 @ Buffalo: The patented Frank Solich triple option got rolling last weekend, as the BobCocks put up 465 rushing yards on the ground. Meanwhile the abysmal Bulls were getting steamrolled on the ground by the Pocket Rockets. In a game where you have every right to question why it’s being played at all, look for Ohio to perfect its option attack and run roughshod over the She-Bulls at UB-40 Stadium….

4 Star Picks:

Washington St +30 @ Southern Cal: Wazzou sports the best tailback and receiver that you’ve never heard of; unfortunately it’s their incompetent defense that’s keeping the man down. Rumors are rampant that sex-addict Mike Price might be called back home next year. Rumors are also rampant that syphilis prevalence rates in El Paso have risen two-fold in the past 2 years. The Kougars score enough to keep this game reasonably close in the Mausoleum.

Toledo –8 @ C. Michigan: The Pocket Rockets look to stay unbeaten in the MAC as they travel to Gene/Shorts Stadium to face the Hostile and Abusive Chippewas. The difference in this game looks to be Bruce “Office Steve” Gradkowski, who has a plethora of receiv-uhs this year from which to choose. Here’s something to put in your pipe and smoke it: CMU always fades in mid-October, going down the toilet ATS for the past 3 years.

Mississippi St –1 @ Kentucky: Koach Krooms and Staff look to avoid the double-whammy of being the worst in the SEC and losing to Dead Coach Walking, Rich Brooks. Something tells me Sly and the Family Jewels have something up their sleeve. We’ll call for the Bullies to clamp down on the pathetic UK “offense” and win a phugly 13-7 type of game in the Blue Grass.

3 Star Picks (****s and giggles picks):

Syracuse –5 vs. Cincinnati: Ok. Syracuse wants to “restore their storied tradition” – so they go out and put numbers on their helmets. Yet they bow to PC whackos and lose their nickname of 100 years and whore themselves out to Nike…. Oh well, at least they have an offense that sets the game back 50 years. This week, however, the Orangemen face the Big lEast’s worst defense and should win by at least a TD….

Missouri –5.5 @ Kansas: Some Might Say to throw out the records when these 2 clubs meet – mayhaps it’s because their records usually suck. In any case, this year Misery’s 7th year inexperienced QB is looking to right the ship and lead the Tiggers to a Houston Bowl berth. He’d better or else it’s back to jail for temperamental coach Gary Pinkel (but we’ll get to this later). Mrs. Smith’s big day propels Mizzou to a huge victory in the Sunflower State.

La Tech –19 vs. San Jose St: The Dick Tomey Antique Coach Road Show hits deplorable Ruston this weekend for another round of embarrassment for the Spartans. San Jose sports the WAC’s worst offense, defense, and uniforms to boot. La Tech in a laugher. If a game is played in the armpit of the Pelican State and no one watches it, does it indeed exist? I have a headache…

Michigan State –18 vs. Indiana: Finally…. Much like their emotionally unstable coach, the Spartans have displayed a nasty case of schizophrenia this year. However, they still have one of the more unstoppable offenses in the country, which spells Treacherous newz for the Hoosiers and their inept defense. After this 30-point shellacking, IU coach Terry Hoeppner openly ponders his decision to leave the MAC for this coaching Waste Land.
