Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your day off right? Looking for the most interesting events of the day and a few games to lay action on? This day is all about college football and there are several top top 25 matchups that should be enticing. Let's take a look at the top five matchups of the day.

1)#10 Oklahoma (3-1) at #15 Texas (4-1), 12pmET, Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, Tx

Last year: Oklahoma (-11) over Texas, 55-17. The Sooners leveled the Longhorns last year in the Red River Rivalry from Dallas. Texas QB David Ash was rotating with Casey McCoy last year, but now Ash is the man with 1,276yds passing, 77.5% completion rate with 11 TDs and just one pick. Oklahoma and Landry Jones need this game to get back in the BCS picture. They are coming off a 41-20 road win over Texas Tech. Oklahoma is 1-4 ATS L5 conference games.. Oklahoma is a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 58.5.

2)#5 Kansas State (5-0) at #25 Iowa State (4-1), 12pmET, Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, Iowa

Last year: KANSAS STATE (-10’) over Iowa State, 30-23. Iowa State (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) is coming off a 37-23 win over TCU last week. Senior WR Josh Lenz was the star, hauling in five receptions for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Even though Iowa State has dropped four straight in this series, none has been by more than eight points. This is a dangerous game for K-State with West Virginia looming next week. Collin Klein will need another strong game for Wildcats. Dog is 4-1 ATS L5 in series. Kansas State is a 6.5-point favorite with a total of 48.

3)#17 Stanford (4-1) at #7 Notre Dame (5-0), Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, Ind

Last year: STANFORD (-7) over Notre Dame, 28-14. Notre Dame is 5-0 for the first time since 2002. They are doing it with defense as they are coming off a 41-3 rout over Miami-Fla. last week at Soldier Field. QB Everett Golson has been efficient, managing the game well. He appears to be getting better after every game. Stanford (4-1) defeated Arizona last week, 54-48 in overtime. The inconsistent Josh Nunes has been off-and-on this year. So has their defense but they are still a very dangerous team. Stanford is 4-9 ATS L13 vs. Independent teams. Notre Dame is a 7-point favorite with a total of 44.

4)#3 South Carolina (6-0) at #8 LSU (5-1), Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, La.

South Carolina is looking to make a statement against a struggling LSU squad. The Tigers are coming off a 14-6 loss at Florida, which basically took them out of the BCS Championship picture. The problem for LSU is an offense that has been very poor as of late. They put up 200 total yards against Florida, which was the fewest in a regular-season game since Oct. 10, 2009, when they put up 162. South Carolina is 7-0 ATS L7 following a SU win and 5-0 ATS L5 following an ATS win. LSU is a 2.5-point favorite with a total of 39.5.

5)#21 Texas A&M (4-1) at Louisiana Tech (5-0), Independence Stadium, Shreveport, La

This is a write-in game as these two teams were supposed to meet on Aug. 30 from Shreveport, but the game was postponed due to Hurricane Isaac. The Aggies look to improve to extend the nation's longest regular-season winning streak to 13 and improve to 6-0 for the first time. Louisiana Tech is winless in 13 straight against ranked opponents. Senior Colby Cameron leads with 13 TDs and no interceptions, while the defense has recovered 10 fumbles and recorded five INTs - all in the last three games. Texas A&M is 0-5 ATS vs. teams with a winning record. Texas A&M is a 7.5-point favorite with a total of 79.5.
