5 Things You Need to Know in Sports

What a great day for college football. This is the day to be out at your favorite school tailgating or clearing time to sit on the soft and watching games on the big screen in the man cave. If you love college football and laying some action, here are the top five most enticing matchups of the day

NCAA Football: Ohio State (8-0) at Penn State (5-2)

Last year: Penn State (+6’) over OHIO STATE, 20-14. This may not be for a championship, since both teams are ineligible, but it's a scintillating game between two superior programs having good seasons. The Buckeyes are 8-0 for the first time since 2007 and 4-0 in the Big 10. They take on a PSU team that is 5-2 and 3-0, after winning five straight. QB Braxton Miller is back after dealing with a sore neck. OSU has won three of the last four at Penn State. Road team is 4-1 ATS L5 in series. Ohio State is a 3-point favorite with a total of 52. The game is a pick'em with a total of 52.

NCAA Football: #12 Mississippi State (7-0) at #1 Alabama (7-0)

Last year: Alabama (-17’) over MISSISSIPPI STATE, 24-7. Mississippi State has won nine straight games based on a strong defense. But this will be a stupendous tasks for QB Tyler Russell, who has 15 touchdowns and just one interception and is one of the league’s most efficient quarterback. Alabama's last four opponents in the SEC are a combined 3-12 in conference play. The Bulldogs will need to turn Alabama over to have a chance to win this game. Mississippi State is 5-0 ATS L5 in October. Alabama is a 23-point favorite with a total of 46.

NCAA Football: #17 Texas Tech (6-1) at #2 Kansas State (7-0)

Last year: Kansas State (+3’) over TEXAS TECH, 41-34. Texas Tech’s Seth Doege takes on KState’s Collin Klein in a battle of two of top quarterbacks in the Big 12. Klein's ability to run presents a huge challenge on every defense he faces. Doege threw for 318 yards and seven touchdown passes in a 56-53 triple-overtime win at TCU last week. He also threw for 499 yards against West Virginia, in a 49-14 rout of then No. 5 Mountaineers. KState has dropped nine of 11 to top 25 opponents at home. Texas Tech is 6-1 ATS L7. Kansas State is a 7-point favorite with a total of 60.5.

NCAA Football: #5 Notre Dame (7-0) and #7 Oklahoma (5-1)

This is about offense against defense. Talk about two different styles of play. Oklahoma will look to knock off a Notre Dame is in the BCS picture. Notre Dame averages just 17.7 ppg in three games against ranked opponents, but their defense has been sensational as they allow just 9.4 ppg overall. Notre Dame’s top player is linebacker Manti Te’o, who leads a defense that allows just 280.7 yards per game overall and has not allowed a rushing touchdown all season. Notre Dame is 8-3 ATS L11 after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. Oklahoma is a 11.5-point favorite with a total of 47.5.

NCAA Football: #3 Florida (7-0) at #11 Georgia (6-1)

Last year: Georgia (-2.5) over Florida, 24-20. This the annual "cocktail party" from Jacksonville. If Florida gets by Georgia, it will have clinched a spot in the SEC Championship. Florida dominated the Gamecocks 44-11 last weekend. They have been most impressive with halftime adjustments, second-half stamina and special teams play. The Bulldogs struggled to beat Kentucky 29-24 last Saturday. Florida is 6-0 ATS L6 conference games. Florida is a 6.5-point favorite with a total of 45.5.
