Brian Gabrielle Winnipeg

It is hard to imagine how a team in Saskatchewan that has lost 5 games in a row could go into a football game as 6 point favorites - especially when they are playing a team which has won 2 of their last three and over those three games scored 121 points.

In fact over the two team?s last 5 games Winnipeg has actually outscored their opponents by a 33.8 to 27.2 while Saskatchewan has been outscored by a whopping 29.6 to 15.8 score over that same 5 game span.

Common sense will tell you Kevin Glenn and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are playing the best football in Winnipeg in two years while the Riders are the worst ( at least on offense ) they have been in years and heading in the wrong direction.

Labor Day games in Canada notoriously favor the underdog as it is, so we have no problem pulling the trigger here.

Saskatchewan 24, Winnipeg 23. Take Winnipeg +6

Mike Rose Syracuse Under

The Orange has dropped three straight to the Mounty's, and now have their best shot at halting that losing streak when they welcome in WV Sunday afternoon. Syracuse got a facelift this past off-season as they bring in new HC Greg Robinson as the Orange's 5th coach in history. He was the former DC at Texas, and brings a solid defensive philosophy with him over to the right coast. 'Cuse will also be implementing a new west coast offensive attack that will keep the play calling conservative to say the least. WV loses a ton on offense this year as most of the major playmakers we've become used to seeing over the last few years have all departed. Look for HC Rodriguez to keep his men on a short leash as he feels his team out looking for playmakers. Either way, look for a ton of running that will keep the clock ticking, and for both clubs to have a hard time succeeding on offense.

Ted Sevransky Louisville

Kentucky is a bottom feeder program. Nothing that has come out of Lexington in the off-season has been good news. HC Rich Brooks is already on the hot seat, like all of his recent predecessors, after only two years on the job. The Wildcats have scholarship limitations, They have injuries. They have just two offensive line starters back; their top three middle linebackers quit, and the fourth one didn’t make the squad due to academics. Kentucky finished last in the SEC in total offense and last in total defense in 2004. They lost to Louisville 28-0 last year and 40-24 two years ago. Meanwhile, Louisville is my #2 team in the nation, behind USC. New QB Brian Brohm is a better QB than Stefan Lefors was last year, and Lefors was the #1 QB in passing efficiency in the nation last year, leading the team to the #1 total offense and #1 scoring offense in all of college football. This one should get very ugly for the home team, and the Cardinals won't stop running up the score.

Big Al McMordie Pittsburgh Pirates Over

At 1:35pm our selection is on the Chicago Cubs at the Pittsburgh Pirates 'over' the total. Spot starter righthander Jerome Williams gets his fifteenth start of the season and it has not been a very good season at that for the 23 year old. Williams has regressed in his last two seasons in the major leagues after making a strong 2003 debut for the San Francisco Giants that saw him start 21 games and finish the year with a 3.30 ERA. Williams is young enough that he certainly can turn things around in years to come, but 2005 has not been a year he will want to remember. Of course, expectations for WIlliams have never been very high to begin with. The Pirates on the other hand, have got to be disapointed with the performance turned in by Kip Wells so far this season, as expectations were that the 28 year old righty might blossom this season into a dependable starter. But with a record of 7 wins against 14 losses, Wells has been anything but dependable so far. If he's ever going to be an effective starter, he's going to have to issue fewer free passes. One walk every two innings won't cut it in the Majors, even on a sub-par team such as the Pirates. Look for both of these pitchers to continue their struggles and take the 'over' in this one as a result. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

Nice to see Middle Tennessee State get me the cover on Saturday. Very nice. Again, the only thing that went right for me on Saturday.

Now I will come strong with Louisville over Kentucky on Sunday. Just like what I am seeing with this Louisville team.

2* LOUISVILLE CARDINALS

For Sunday take Jae Seo and the Mets at Dolphin Stadium.

To sweep any team is difficult no less a talented team like the Mets with a solid hurler in Seo on the bump. Florida came back very nicely yesterday thanks to the Miguel Cabrera bases clearing double in the seventh inning for the 5-4 win but I just do not see the fish taking all three games in the set.

The Mets have enough talent to hit AJ Burnett. The Florida righty had a great six week run before getting hit hard by the Cards in that last start. These Mets are not as hard hitting as the Redbirds but with Cliff Floyd, David Wright, Carlos Beltran and others they can and will get to Burnett.

Seo has been brilliant ever since his return to the bigs. His last start, like Burnett, was not as stellar but the guy has somewhat found himself and could dominate a little today against a predominantly right handed hitting club.

The Mets are not going to quit under Willie Randolph and this is the type of a game that they will win. New York is going to make a little run before the year is out and today is a great day for that run to begin.

Trace Adams

Roll with the Rockies to rock the Dodgers once again.

Colorado has won the first 2 games of this weekend set, and they have done it by outscoring Los Angeles 22-4. That makes 7 of their last 10 in the win column for the Rocks, and they are also 6-3 at home this season against the Dodgers.

Zach Day returns from the DL to make his first Colorado start, and his first start since May when he left after 4 in LA before going on the shelf.

Jackson will counter making just his 3rd start of the season for the Dodgers. Look for the thin air and the hot swinging Rockies to do him in early.
