I have requested for the site to be switched from a Windows Server to a Unix Server. With this transition, nobody can tell me what to expect.

The transfer takes about 12 hours to perform, which will be about 8-9pm tonight. If everything works ok, then you won't even notice it happened. If it doesn't, well then that is why stuff may be jacked up.

I am doing this because I want to get that new Message Board for us, but the Windows Server we are currently on isn't compatible. However the Unix one is. So, this is the last resort before I have to switch hosts comepletely.

If tonight everything is all messed up, I will IMMEDIATELY request it to be switched back and all should be well by the time most of you get up in the morning.

Either way, we will have a new message board up in the next few days. I think everyone will like it a lot.

If you dont have experience in linux don't do this. I'm in IT so I know what can happend. In 90% you have big problems with install everything on linux. Linux it's great and I have also my server on linux byt it's difficulte to configure. Beter install linux on separate HD! If something goes wrong you can put old system and try again. If you need some help just ask but now I'm in germany and I'll be at home on friday. If you want something send email to me.

Thanks Isalaki, I may take you up on that.

I don't have experience with anything. But this is my last resort before I move everything over to another company.

The only things I really have to worry about is the banner rotator and the message board. All my pages are straight .html and my understanding is that I should be alright. I already checked the banner rotator and that says it actually workes better on unix so we will see I guess.

If this doesn't work I will just have to switch it back and then move everything to a company that offers a Windows server with My SQL.
