MIKE GODSEY
WASHINGTON -2’ Dallas
The Skins miracle on Monday night early this year was big in neutralizing the mental whammy the Pokes have over them. Washington comes in red hot defensively. The Redskins defense, which has allowed only 22 points in the last two games and in those games have picked off six passes have been playing better. Admittedly, those games were against the Rams and Cardinals but they were on the road against potent offenses. The Cowboys have lost 16 of their last 19 December road games.
After an emotional win last week and with another tough road game at Carolina next week, in a battle of pretty even teams we have to lay just 2’ at home.

For Sunday take my J-E-T-S. That's right, the Jets.
It is pretty much never a wise decision to make a wager on your favorite team, but at this price I will back my men in green even if they are still anemic offensively. Brooks Bollinger is not very good and this offense is struggling even more minus Curtis Martin, but who the heck are the Dolphins?
Sure Miami has won three in a row and pulled off the shocker in San Diego last week, but that is all in the past. Today they are laying a ton in a rivalry game to a New York team that still does have a defense. Jonathan Vilma is a stud and the Jetties are going to bring the "D". They may not do much on the other side of the ball, but for a mediocre at best Miami team to be laying so much, and with number is rising, that is just flat out wrong.
This is a division rivalry game no matter how you slice it. Miami still has a guy in Gus Frerotte who could implode at anytime calling the signals.
This number is just overblown because of this recent Miami streak. But I say the heck with that. We are looking at a 17-13 final either way making the dog the play.

Today's Pick: Chargers/Colts OVER
NFL
San Diego vs. Indianapolis

One cannot say enough about how well the Colts "D" has played this year. After years of being a joke, Indy began the year by alllowing just 29 points through its first five games. Entering Week 15, the team ranks 4th in total yards allowed and second in points allowed. However, in San Diego, a defense that's allowed 18.9 PPG over its last eight games, will be facing the most balanced attack it has seen all season. Now 18.9 PPG is a good figure but it's NOT the 5.8 PPG the Colts were allowing through their first five games. LT is arguably the league's best RB, Gates is likely its best TE and Brees has proven all season that last year's breakout season was just THAT, the first of what will be MANY excellent years by the former Purdue QB. In case you hadn't noticed, the Colts have a pretty good offense as well with guys named Manning, James and Harrison (lead the NFL averaging 30.2 PPG). Last year these two teams played a 34-31 OT

Today's Pick: DETROIT LIONS
NFL
Cincinnati vs. Detroit
4:05 EST
I had success going against the Bengals last week and they nearly lost straight up to Cleveland. This week, I’ll favor Detroit to cover as a big home underdog against a Bengals’ team that depends too much on forcing turnovers, which aren’t as likely to come today against a Lions team quarterbacked by Jeff Garcia, who ranks among the best in the NFL during his career at avoiding interceptions (just 3 in 152 pass attempts this season). Cincinnati has intercepted a league-leading 27 passes, but they are only 1-4-1 ATS this year when they pick off 1 or fewer passes and it’s unlikely that Garcia will throw more than 1 today. The Bengals defense has allowed 5.4 yards per play this season (to teams that would average only 5.0 yppl against an average defensive team), which is just slightly better than a sub-par Lions’ attack that is 0.5 yppl worse than average (4.4 yppl against teams that would allow 4.9 yppl to an average team). Detroit will have decent success moving the ball in this game, which will make it tough for Cincinnati to win by double-digits. The Bengals’ offense is the best in the league (5.9 yppl against teams that would allow 5.0 yppl to an average team) and the Lions have been 0.4 yppl worse than average defensively in 11 games since starting CB Antonio Bryant was lost for the season and my math model favors Cincinnati by 9 points in this game. The Bengals, however, apply to a negative 59-129-9 ATS statistical indicator and Detroit applies to an 85-34-3 ATS statistical profile indicator. Home underdogs are also very good bets the final 3 weeks of the season (136-86-8 ATS since 1991) and I’ll consider Detroit a Strong Opinion in this game. Take the Lions.
