Vegas Experts Tip of the Day

Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic
Sunday, March 26, 6:05 PM EST

Magic will look to build on big Friday night win in Philadelphia that snapped a 16-game road losing streak. Hawks caught in a back-to-back spot after hosting Dallas last night and losing 98-83 as a 7.5-point dog. The Hawks have dropped six of their last eight to the number. Supporting angle says to Play On - Favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points (ORLANDO) - revenging a loss where opponent scored 100 or more points, with a losing record. (137-87 over the last 5 seasons, 61.2%)

Play on: Orlando

Sunday NCAA Tourney Basketball:
U.Conn-8 over George Mason: (3* selection)
George Mason has made an incredible run to the Elite 8 in this tourney as a #11 seed and is only the 3rd mid-major to make this deep of a run in the last 8 years, while #1 seed U.Conn was very fortunate to beat #5 seed Washington in OT on Fri. 98-92 and is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 outings (our offficial line was U.Conn-6½ on Fri.). Still you have to believe that reality may well set in here with a #1-#11 seed matchup not even featuring a double digit line, and U.Conn has major size and depth advantages in this 11:40pm PT tipoff in Washington, D.C. Of course this venue is almost a home game for George Mason with their campus in Fairfax, Va. being less than 20 miles away, and the Patriots have earned their way into this Elite 8 game including wins over veteran Michigan St. and hot No.Carolina squads. The Patriots have held 11 of their last 15 opponents to 62 points or less, and on the season they have allowed only 38.6% FG and 55.8 ppg. while having 5 players of their own averaging in double figures on the offensive end. U.Conn survived a season high 26 turnovers and had the benefit of some very questionable refereeing in their Sweet 16 victory over Washington on Fri. night where the Huskies needed a trey from F R.Anderson at the end of regulation to get the game into OT. U.Conn owned a big 47-23 FTA edge in the contest where 5 Washington players fouled out and UW star B.Roy missed 8 minutes of the 2nd half with foul trouble (leaving when his team was up 53-45). PG M.Williams (22.3 ppg. and 8 apg. in tourney) led the way for U.Conn with 26 points and 8 assists, and his team overcame both an 11-point deficit at one point in the 2nd half and a 78-72 deficit with 1:16 to go in regulation to pull out the win. In their Sweet 16 game George Mason led fellow mid-major Wichita St. wire-to-wire in a 63-55 victory, and that final was misleading as the Patriots led 35-19 at the half with the Shockers only getting the game back to single digits in the final 2 minutes. Previously solid Wichita St. shot a horrible 3-24 from 3-point land and 31% FG overall. George Mason is now 18-9 ATS on the season, and swingman F.Campbell is averaging 17.3 ppg. on 68% FG shooting in this tourney. Still we believe that this is a bad matchup style and talent wise for George Mason whose tallest starter in PF J.Lewis (14 ppg. and 8 rpg.) is 6’7", though U.Conn’s penchant to take time off in games and sometimes be in cruise control is their biggest weakness. As much as we wouldn’t mind seeing a big upset here, betting wise we think the value play is to lay the points with U.Conn for 3-units in this spot.
