Weather to watch

Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs – There’s a 30 percent chance of precipitation at Wrigley on Sunday with the forecast calling for a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Oakland Athletics at Texas Rangers – It’ll be hot but the wind is blowing in south by southeast at around 15 mph. That should turn some big flies into fly-outs.

Who’s hot

The Los Angeles Angels are 14-2 in their last 16 road games.

The San Antonio Silver Stars are 7-1 against the spread over their last eight games and 9-2 ATS on the season.

Who’s not

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 0-6 in their last six games and just 1-10 in their last 11.

The Washington Mystic are 1-9 straight up in their last 10 games and 0-5 against the number over their last five.

Key stat

Spain has allowed just 12 shots on target in five games at Euro 2012. Half of those allowed shots (6) on target came in its first game against Italy.

Injury that shouldn’t be overlooked

Jordan Hall, Ohio State RB – The Buckeyes’ projected starting tailback is out 10 weeks after undergoing surgery on his right foot. This means he’ll likely miss at least OSU’s first two games of the season (Miami Ohio and Central Florida).

Game of the day

Spain vs. Italy

Notable quotable

“We’re playing for history on Sunday, it’s something that will never be surpassed as no other national team has managed it before and we have the chance now to do it." – Spain defender Sergio Ramos on his team’s chance to repeat as European Champion while sitting as the reigning World Cup champion.

Notes and tips

St. Louis Rams new head coach Jeff Fisher pointed out that the Rams have been really bad lately. Not news but this state he threw out to the Tennessean was pretty cool: “No team in NFL history has lost more games in a five-year span than the Rams the last five years.” Think he’s asking fans to lower their expectations for the season. Vegas has St. Louis’ win total set at 5.5.

Gio Gonzalez takes the mound tomorrow and that’s good news for Washington backers. The Nationals are 12-3 in Gonzalez’s 15 starts this season and he hasn’t been priced higher than -161 to date. The Nats are +110 road underdogs tomorrow against the Atlanta Braves.

The Minnesota Lynx, the best team in the WNBA, are just 3.5-point favorites tomorrow against the San Antonio Silver Stars. The spread opened at Minny -4 but has been bet down to -3.5. Surprising move considering the Lynx are the defending champions and are off to one of the all-time great season starts in WNBA history.
