Sunday's Betting Tips
By Covers.com

Weather to watch

Baseball bettors can expect multiple rain delays on the east coast Sunday. Showers are expected in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Baltimore. There’s also a 30 percent of a thunderstorm in Texas.

Who’s hot?

The San Diego Padres. The Padres try for their season-high seventh straight victory as they attempt to complete a sweep of their three-game road series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since ending a five-game skid against San Francisco at home on Aug. 19, San Diego swept its three-game set with Pittsburgh and captured the first two contests of this series, outscoring the Diamondbacks 14-3. The Padres have won six consecutive games at Chase Field after losing 24 of their previous 30 in the desert.

Who’s not?

The Toronto Blue Jays. Jose Bautista, who had just returned from the disabled list on Friday, had to be pulled from Saturday’s game with soreness in his left wrist and went back on the DL. The Jays have dropped seven straight contests and find themselves 14 games below .500 for the first time since Sept. 25, 2009.

Key stat

4- The number of times Tiger Woods three-putted in Round 3 at The Barclays - the most he’s ever had in a single round on the PGA Tour.

Game of the day

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds (+131, 8.5)

Injury that shouldn’t be overlooked

Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski left Saturday night's 31-20 Week 3 preseason victory over the Detroit Lions with a groin injury. Janikowski came up limping while giving chase after a kickoff. Janikowski is one of the better kickers in the league, nailing 79 percent of his field goal attempts over 12 seasons.

Notable quotable

"It was just scary to look down and see your hand swelling up by the second. That kind of freaked me out. The skin kind of just grew by the second. I didn't know what was going on."-Lions quarterback Matt Stafford after taking a helmet-to-hand hit in Saturday’s preseason game with the Raiders. Stafford took the hit on his non-throwing hand and is expected to be fine for Week 1 of the regular season.

Betting news and notes

The Cardinals' active roster is a collective 40-for-122 (.328) against Cincinnati’s Homer Bailey, with Matt Holliday (9-for-22) and Yadier Molina (6-for-13) leading the way.

The Red Sox suspended right-handed pitcher Alfredo Aceves for three games for conduct detrimental to the team Saturday. Aceves was upset about not being used in a save situation on Friday. Andrew Bailey is now the undisputed closer in Boston.

Twins starting pitchers have allowed 18 earned runs and 24 hits in just 9 2/3 innings in their current series with the Rangers.
