BC's offense is average but their defense is holding teams to well below their normal averages. Teams normally getting 3.6 yards per rush get just 2.5 to BC and 5.5 yards per pass to 6.9. They hold teams to a full yard per play below their normal season averages.

True Tech has one hell of an offense but they average 46 rushes per game so they eat up the clock. However on defense they allow 3.1 to 3.9 yards per rush, 5.1 yards per pass to 6.0 and 4.0 yards per play to 4.8.

Virginia Tech allows an average of nine per game — best in the nation — while Boston College allows 14 (sixth in the country

HOME TEAM IN CAPS
Boston College +13½ over VIRGINIA TECH
Sure, the Hokies are one of the best in the land and their #3 ranking is warranted, as they're undefeated and they're pretty much steamrolling over everyone. However, there's a price to pay for backing teams that are winning with ease and that rank this high and should you choose to back the home side here you'll absolutely be paying a premium here to do so. The Eagles have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they belong in the ACC. They come in 7-1 with their only setback coming against Florida St. in a game they were in a position to win. There's some concern about their narrow win over Wake in their last game, however, we're not going to put too much emphasis on that. B.C. knew they had this monster game on deck and it's just not possible that this one wasn't on their collective minds. They'll have to contain Superman's brother here, Marcus Vick, but again, that doesn't concern us that much. The Eagles have already had some success this year against mobile quarterbacks. They were able to contain both Marques Hagans and Cory Randolph in their victories over Virginia and Wake Forest, respectively. In addition, B.C. will have one of its big guns back in the lineup. Defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, who suffered a medial collateral ligament sprain in his right knee against Virginia on Oct. 8 has been cleared to play and he's a huge defensive talent that can have a serious impact on this game. Lastly, let's not forget that Boston College is also ranked, No. 13 to be exact and this is a team that's also rich in talent at the skilled positions. They have a great running game, a slew of good receivers, an extremely adequate QB in Quinton Porter and a defense that's allowed just 14 points a game and that's been excellent against both the pass and the run. This is a ton of lumber to be spotting this invader and for the first time since week one, the Hokies will be tested. Play: Boston College +13½ (Risking 1.65 units to win 1.5).

BRYAN LEONARD -GOM
Virginia Tech (-) over Boston College
The Eagles of Boston College have played two quality opponents this season, Florida State and Clemson. They lost at home to Florida State 28-17 and won at Clemson 16-13 in overtime. But those games were played a month ago and a disturbing trend has developed since then. In the last four games the Eagles have a negative 9 turnover margin!! In 7 games this season they have forced just 8 total turnovers, while commiting 14 themselves. For what we think of as a powerful football team these numbers really make us stop and think. Over the past five seasons Boston College has had a +31 turnover edge. In no season did they have a turnover deficit. Now they are down 9 turnovers in the past four games. That tells us one disturbing fact, this team is not physical to play in the ACC.
That's not a good thing when you are facing the turnover kings in Virginia Tech. Not only are the Hokies dominant in the special teams category, they are +9 in the turnover department. Over the previous five seasons they were +35 in turnovers. Virginia Tech has held every opponent this season to 17 points or less, including halding 4 of 7 teams to single digit scores. They are now 9-1 against the spread on Thursday Night Football as this team shines in the national spotlight.
Virginia Tech will not be afraid of running up the score because they trail both USC and Texas in the national rankings. They could possibly go undefeated and still not get a chance to play for the National Championship. Virginia Tech wins with defense and special teams, tonight they once again dominate.
