Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action and the most exciting matchups of the day? There are two college football games on national TV, one NFL and several key baseball playoff games, but we'll focus on just four matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Pittsburgh at Tennessee, LP Field in Nashville

Last week, Pittsburgh edged Philadelphia, 16-14 giving 4, Tennessee was crushed at Minnesota, 30-7. Last year: PITTSBURGH (-3) over Tennessee, 38-17. Tennessee is having major issues as Matt Hasselbeck returns as the starting quarterback with Jake Locker out (shoulder). He threw for less than 200 yards in a 30-7 loss at Minnesota. Pittsburgh should be able to run the ball with Rashard Mendenhall back in the lineup. Pittsburgh is 8-3 ATS L11 in Week 6. Pittsburgh is a 6-point favorite with a total of 43.5.

2)Western Kentucky at Troy, Veterans Memorial Stadium, Troy, Ala

Last year: WESTERN KY (-5') over Troy, 41-18. Western Kentucky is coming off a 26-13 win over Arkansas State on the road. Troy is coming off a bye. On Sept. 29, Troy defeated South Alabama on the road, 31-10. The Trojans are ranked 19 on offense, averaging 498.0 yards per game. The Trojans are averaging 173.4 yards rushing and 324.6 yards passing so far this season. The Hilltoppers are ranked 55 on offense, averaging 413.6 yards per game. Troy is 7-14-1 ATS coming off a bye. Western Kentucky is a 1.5-point favorite with a total of 54.

3)Arizona State at Colorado, Folsom Field, in Boulder, Col

Last year: ARIZONA STATE (-31') over Colorado, 48-14. Both teams are coming off byes. Two weeks ago, Arizona State beat California on the road, 27-17 giving two, while Colorado fell at home to UCLA, 42-14, getting 17.5. Arizona State leads the Pac 12 in total defense (276.2 yards per game) and scoring defense (13.6). The Buffaloes are last in the Pac 12 in scoring (21.6) and are searching for respectability under second-year coach Jon Embree. Colorado is 5-0 after a bye. Arizona State is a 22-point favorite with a total of 57.

4)St. Louis at Washington, Game 4, Kyle Lohse vs. Ross Detwiler

The Nats are one game away from falling out of the playoffs. So much for having the best record in baseball, but now the Nats will be second-guessed for shutting down ace Stephen Strasburg. That's unless Ross Detwiler (10-8, 3.40 ERA) can get them to a Game 5 by outdueling Kyle Lohse (16-3, 2.86 ERA). Washington is 19-7 in Detwiler's last 26 home starts.

5)Odds to win the 2012-13 NBA Rookie of the Year
