Five Things You Need to Know

Looking for some exciting events for Thursday? Want to lay some action down on some national tv games? Here are the top matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Tampa Bay at Minnesota, HHH Metrodome

Last year: Tampa Bay (+2) over MINNESOTA, 24-20. Tampa Bay is coming off a 35-28 loss at home against New Orleans, while Minnesota defeated Arizona at home, 21-14. Tampa Bay is 4-9 ATS L13 in October. Adrian Peterson has made an amazing comeback off an ACL injury to lead the Vikings, while Josh Freeman is starting to come on at quarterback for Tampa Bay. Minnesota is a 6.5-point favorite with a total of 42.5.

2)Clemson (6-1, 3-1) at Wake Forest (4-3, 2-3)

Last year: CLEMSON (-16.5) over Wake Forest, 31-28. Clemson has won three straight and is averaging 41ppg and 493ypg. They dominated Virginia Tech last week, 38-17 and forced four turnovers. They take on a Wake Forest team (4-3, 2-3 ACC) that will need to keep the score low. They did defeat Virginia on the road last week and held a dismal Virginia team to just 48 yards rushing. Clemson is 5-0 ATS L5 conf. games. Clemson is a 12-point favorite with a total of 59.

3)Detroit at San Francisco, World Series, Game 2

This was written before the result of Game 1. The Giants send out lefty Madison Bumgarner (16-11, 3.37 ERA) to the mound against Doug Fister (10-10, 3.45 ERA). Fister is a lanky right-hander who doesn't throw hard but can keep hitters off-balance. Bumgarner is 0-3 in his last three starts with a 10.50 ERA. Detroit is 5-21 last 26 road games against a left-hander. No line as of press time.

4)NBA Preseason: Portland (3-3) at Utah (4-3)

The Trailblazers should be an exciting team this year with two rookies possibly starting in point guard Damian Lillard and center Meyers Leonard. LaMarcus Aldridge now can play his natural position of power forward. Utah should be competitive with an improved guard Gordon Hayward, C Enes Kanter and PF Derrick Favors. No line available.

5)Odds to Win NBA Rookie of the Year
