NBA NEW ORLEANS HORNETS +8 GAME OF THE NIGHT (Tue., 11/01, 8:00 ET) – The Hornets should be much improved from a year ago, and we will grab them as a big home underdog in this spot. Granted New Orleans only has one direction to go after winning just 18 games last season, but they did draft an impact player in point guard Chris Paul out of Wake Forest. Paul should be a Rookie of the Year candidate at the end of the season if he stays healthy. He is joined in the backcourt by J.R. Smith, who had a solid rookie campaign last year and should see his 10.8-point scoring average go up with Paul running the show. The Bees also drafted another player that will have an immediate impact in forward Brandon Bass out of LSU. Bass is an excellent rebounder and inside scorer, and he will compensate for the loss of Jamaal Magloire, who was traded last week for versatile swingman Desmond Mason. The Kings are just a mere shell of what they were a few seasons ago, as this team may now go only as far as point guard Mike Bibby can take them. The problem is that we feel the rest of the team is comprised of just glorified role players, and we think the Kings will have trouble as decided favorites this season.
