San Francisco (Ortiz) @ New York (Trachsel)

Well I am taking the hometown Mets here and I will tell you why!

San Francisco sends Russ Ortiz to the mound 2-1 on the year in 6 starts with an ERA of 2.79 with a WHIP of 1.22. He has 8 career starts against the Mets with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 3.10 with a WHIP of 1.261. Last year he started 2 games against the Mets winning in San Francisco and losing in New York.

The Mets counter with Steve Trachsel who is not one of my favorite pitchers believe me but I really like him in this spot. He is 2-3 on the year with an ERA of 3.09 and a WHIP of 1.719. He has started 7 games against the Giants with a 3-0 record and the Mets going 6-1, he has an ERA of 2.64 and a WHIP of 1.353 in those starts. He started twice against the Giants last year with both games going extra innings, the Mets lost the game in San Francisco and won the game in New York.

The Mets have really been swatting the ball lately batting a very solid .305 as a team against right handed starters in their last 10 games with a 5-2 record in their last 8 games against them. The Giants have been struggling at the plate against righties in their last 10 games only hitting .235 as a team.

The Giants bullpen has struggled a little on the road with an ERA of 5.36 and a WHIP of 1.643, while the Mets pen has been rock solid especially at home where they carry an ERA of 2.14 with a WHIP of 1.048 in 42 innings pitched with 47 strikeouts and only 16 walks.

The Giants are 8-7 on the road while the Mets are 10-5 at home they are 8-2 at home against the Giants over the last 3 seasons. I will take the Mets who look like they have found their bats to get the win here today!

Nice analysis, again! I wouldn't have even looked at that game just because of Traschel (knew him from his old Chicago days).
