Tuesday's Betting Tips

Weather to watch

Mets-Nationals: The temperature is expected to be in the high 90s and will feel like triple-digit heat with the humidity in Washington tonight. Same thing at Kauffman Stadium for the Mariners-Royals game.

White Sox-Red Sox: The wind is expected to be around 14 mph toward the Green Monster during Game 2 of the all Sox affair. Oddsmakers have the total set at 10.

Who’s hot?

Chicago Cubs – The Cubbies are on a four-game win streak and are 12-4 since June 25. You’d be up $1008 (10.08 units) if you bet $100 on Chicago during the 16-game stretch.

Oakland Athletics – The A’s are also riding a four-game unbeaten streak, after sweeping the Twins over the weekend. Oakland is now 9-1 over its last 10 contests.

Who’s not?

Kansas City Royals – K.C. is 2-8 over its last 10. Oddsmakers have made the Royals chalk just three times in the club’s last 20 matchups.

Key stat

19 – Robinson Cano has hit safely in 19 straight games after going 2-for-3 on Monday night against the Jays. The Yankees clean-up hitter is batting .413 since the streak began on June 24.

Injury that shouldn’t be overlooked

Joey Votto, Cincinnati Reds – Votto, the Reds best player and the favorite to win the National League MVP, will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus. He’s expected to miss three to four weeks while he recovers. Votto is batting .342 with 14 HRs and 49 RBIs and a sick .465 OBP (on-base percentage).

Notable quotable

“There have been people that said this wasn’t a football scandal. Well it was more than a football scandal, much more than a football scandal. It was that but much more. And we’ll have to figure out exactly what the right penalties are. I don’t know that past precedent makes particularly good sense in this case, because it’s really an unprecedented problem.” – NCAA president Mark Emmert told PBS on Monday about the Penn State scandal.

Notes and tips

Roy Halladay makes his return to the Philadelphia Phillies after missing the last seven weeks with a strained lat muscle. The two-time Cy Young winner was going through an up-and-down season before going on the disabled list on May 27. He’s 4-5 with a very un-Halladay-like 3.98 ERA. Charlie Manuel expects the 35-year-old Philly ace to go six innings in his first start back on Tuesday.

FC Paris Saint-Germain is a -275 favorite to win Ligue 1 this upcoming season at PinnacleSports. Pinny also has a yes, no prop on PSG winning League 1 (Yes -275, No +238). Why are we talking about the French football league? Well, this club has money, a lot of it, and has brought three of the best players from the Italian league over during the summer transfer season. Defender Thiago Silva, winger Ezequiel Lavezzi and Swedish center forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to follow. That’s four (Javier Pastore last summer) elite footballers FC Paris has added over the last 12 months. Keep in mind PSG didn’t win the league last season and hasn't finished at the top of the table since 1994.
